ERGONOMICS; A MEDICAL DEFINITION

HUMAN ENGINEERING OR HUMAN FACTORS ENGINEERING

Sitting creates skeletal issues

slide-4
SLIDE 4

PRIMARY POINTS OF ERGONOMIC SEATING

  • Stable trochanters (hips)
  • Neutral pelvic orientation
  • Lumbar support for spinal alignment
  • Arm and foot support
  • Proper seat width and depth
slide-5
SLIDE 5

Benefits of the app ergonomic seating

  • Improved posture
  • Improved alignment
  • Reduced fall risk
  • Elimination of

musculoskeletal disorders associated with static load and positional stress

  • Pressure redistribution

through total immersion and envelopment

  • Pressure ulcer

prevention

  • Pressure ulcer healing
  • Pain management
  • Improved comfort and

tolerance to sitting

slide-6
SLIDE 6
  • High-specification

construction

– Specific IFD (ILD) strategically placed to manage static load and support proper skeletal alignment – Select foam shapes and surface design engineered to provide support, immersion and envelopment

  • Terms

– Static load: the forces exuded on the body created by gravity and exacerbated by immobility, poor endurance, and deviations in posture – ILD/IFD: the softness

  • r firmness measure of

foam – Density: the structure rating/quality rating

How the BRODA app works

⁻ Stable base eliminates any potential hammocking ⁻ Immersion posterior seat design conforms to ischial & coccygeal boney pressure points ⁻ Firm anterior with soft rolled edge supports the thigh & eliminates stress on the vascular structures behind the knee

Seat structure:

eliminates stress on the vascular

SLIDE 8

How the BRODA app works (Continued)

⁻ Lumbar support maintains proper spinal curvature and erect posture ⁻ Elevated side edges aid in centering the torso ⁻ Immersion foam surface conforms to boney pressure points of the spine, sacrum & scapula

Back structure:

SLIDE 9

How the BRODA app works (Continued)

⁻ Independent pillow can be positioned at level of comfort behind the neck curvature for head support ⁻ Elevated side edges aid in centering the head

Head Support:

SLIDE 10

How the BRODA app works (Continued)

⁻ Soft immersion foam gently shapes to leg contours, wedge shape allows heel accommodation & off-loading ⁻ Elevated side edges to aid centering of the lower extremities ⁻ No-skid foot surface maintains feet in proper position, resists slipping

Calf and Foot Support:

SLIDE 11

How the BRODA app works (Continued)

⁻ Padded protection for extreme head

  • r limb movements

that result in contact with lateral supports

Lateral Wing Support:

slide-12
SLIDE 12

The Broda app cover

  • Breathable for heat

dissipation

  • Resistant to fluids and

pathogens to prevent core contamination

  • Easily cleaned by spraying

with EPA approved disinfectants and wiping with a sponge or soft cloth

  • Avoid direct heat

application

SLIDE 13

Assembly & application of the Broda app

⁻ the base pad must be replaced in the interior envelope ⁻ the foam must be oriented so the patterned surface is in the rear & the rounded edge in in the front ⁻ Apply optional lateral supports prior to placing seating system ⁻ Attach each section of the seating system from foot to head using the snap or buckle securing straps ⁻ Position product flaps or securing straps around/through the chair webbing as indicated for proper fit ⁻ Refer to picture guides as needed

If the seat cover is removed to facilitate cleaning reassemble for proper therapeutic value; General Application Steps;

Clinical results of a similar ergonomic seating system

  • Negative behaviors ceased and

4+ hour sitting durations were tolerated

  • 100% of the participants

reported improved comfort; pain resolved in multiple participants

  • 100% of the participants

experienced improved body alignment; eye gaze, head/neck function, chest/abdomen expansion, leg/foot position

  • 100% of pressure ulcers on the

torso healed; stage I-III

  • All lower extremity wounds

improved; stage I-IV

  • No new skin injuries occurred
  • No falls occurred
  • Sliding down and leaning

resolved

slide-21
SLIDE 21

Immersion, Envelopment & Alignment

  • Maintains eye gaze
  • Support head/neck for optimal

swallowing

  • Opens chest & abdomen for improved

breathing

  • Helps prevent pressure points on

coccyx, ischial tuberosity, and heels

  • Improves comfort, wound healing and

pain management

  • Helps prevent migration or sliding out,

leaning & slumping

slide-22
SLIDE 22

Clinically effective Product Criteria

  • Optimizes patient comfort
  • Supports proper body alignment
  • Does not hammock or bottom out
  • Provides stable surface and safety elements to deter

falls/entrapment

  • Provides optimal immersion & envelopment;

accommodation to body contours

  • Helps maintain skin integrity, supports wound healing
  • Low maintenance operation and cleaning
  • Infection control construction/cover
  • Affordable
