The Core • Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) – Actions that broadens students horizons – Requires reflection • Extended Essay – 4,000 word extended essay – Completed entirely outside of class – Limited guidance from a mentor • Theory of Knowledge – Philosophical class, but not a philosophy class

The Courses • Three at Higher Level; Three at Standard Level – Language A: English HL – Language B: Spanish SL or French SL – Individuals and Societies: (History of the Americas HL) – Sciences: Physics HL – Mathematics: Two year SL – The Arts or an Elective: Visual Arts SL, Biology SL at RHS, Chemistry SL at RHHS

A Student’s IB Score • 6 courses; 7 points possible for each course • 3 additional points possible (TOK and EE) • Total possible points – 45 • Points necessary to earn the IB diploma – 24!! • Academic grace is built into the system. • Both external and internal assessments • Frequent and on-going assessment • All assessments are criterion referenced.

  8. How is the IB Diploma Programme received by colleges and universities? • Senate Bill 111 guarantees 24 credit hours at state schools for all students who earn the IB diploma • Course by course credit given at the discretion of the college/university

  9. The Cost • Students pay a one-time registration fee of $164 • Students pay a fee of $113 for each course tested each year • Estimated total expense for 2 years is $850 • Information about payment will be forthcoming (RHS will use total registration)
