International Baccalaureate Mission • The International Baccalaureate Program aims to develop inquiring knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. • To this end the International Baccalaureate Organization works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. • These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

What is the Diploma Program? • An internationally coordinated high school diploma program • A two year program of study for Level II and Level III • A high quality curriculum that aims to encourage critical thinking by the study of traditional disciplines while encouraging an international perspective • A program for the motivated student who wants to learn across the curriculum and who has learned to manage time well

PreIB – Level 1 • A program of study designed to improve students’ time management skills, and to prepare them for the rigors of the IB program • Includes French and English Stream • Most complete 16 credits in the first year • Courses in: • English 1201 • Francais 1202 or Career Development 2201 • Histoire du Canada 1223 or Canadian History 1201 • Adv Math 1201/Adv Math 2205 • Bio/Chem/ Science or Chem/Phys/Science

  11. Diploma Requirements Core Elements • Theory of Knowledge (TOK) • Extended Essay (EE) • Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) Higher Level (HL) 240 hours • Minimum of 3, Maximum of 4 courses Standard Level (SL) 150 hours • Minimum of 2, Maximum of 3 courses

  12. The Core Requirements Extended essay • has a prescribed limit of 4,000 words • offers the opportunity to investigate a topic of individual interest • familiarizes students with the independent research and writing skills expected at university. • Due first semester, senior year

Theory of Knowledge (TOK) The interdisciplinary TOK course is designed to provide coherence by: • exploring the nature of knowledge across disciplines • encouraging an appreciation of other cultural perspectives. • Includes a major essay, class presentations and self- evaluation • Two Parts • Second Semester Junior Year • First Semester Senior Year

Creativity, action, service (CAS) (150 hrs) • encourages students to be involved in artistic pursuits, sports and community service work • fosters students’ awareness and appreciation of life outside the academic arena. • Due by January 30th, senior year Provincial Equivalents for Fine Arts and Physical Education Credits • 100 hours of Creativity with sufficient variety is the equivalent of 2 Provincial Fine Arts Credits. • 100 hours of Action, with sufficient variety, is the equivalent of 2 Provincial Physical Education Credits.

  24. Fee structure The school is charged an annual fee to remain a certified IB World School. As well, there is a charge for each exam taken. These charges vary each year, depending on exchange rates and the rates charged by IBO. Grade 10 – No Fee Grade 11 – Year 1 – Approximately $1450 Due September Grade 12 – Year 2 – Approximately $750USD Certificates – Approx. $350USD per exam Due October
