What is health? Utilitarian definition: The degree to which a system can meet human
- bjectives now and on-going in the
future (McIntire 1988). Resilience definition: The ability of a system to undergo change and disturbance but retain the same function, structure and feedbacks (Walker and Salt, 2006).

ecological system to generates desired values with acceptable risk.
- What makes a healthy forest?: The forest is able to
generate desired values now and is at low risk of loosing the ability to do so in the future.
- What do we do to keep our forests healthy?: Treat,
prevent and mitigate known factors that reduce forest health and make investments in people, processes, and technology that will keep forest healthy under future conditions.
