Currently, the desired operations at Independence Lake to benefit Lahontan cutthroat trout (LCT) are:
- Lake should be at maximum elevation by May
15 for successful spawning.

- TMWA to hold the lake level relatively high until
December 1, and then rapidly draw the reservoir level down about three to five feet to de-water kokanee redds.

- CDFW takes eggs from kokanee salmon in
Stampede Reservoir requiring fall drawdown from Independence. To allow for December drawdowns in Independence Lake, it is helpful to limit the fall drawdowns.
