PEOPL OPLE = College Prep Program

Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE)

  • Started in 1999 with 66 students from Milwaukee
  • Serves 700+ students in 4 Madison and 17 Milwaukee

high schools AND College students at UW-Madison

  • Helps students prepare, apply, and be admitted to

college

  • Provides full tuition scholarship and support services to

attend UW Madison if eligible

PEOPLE has two programs

  • Precollege- : Serves 8th grade – 12th grade students with the

goal of supporting college readiness for UW-System Institutions, with an emphasis on UW-Madison

  • College- Serves PEOPLE Precollege students enrolled at UW-

Madison with the goal of supporting them to degree completion

PEOPLE Stats

  • 94% of students who complete the precollege program enroll

in college

  • 81 of 131 applicants were offered admission into UW-Madison

from Cohort 2018.

  • 1000 students have enrolled at UW Madison on PEOPLE

How do I become a PEOPLE student?

Students apply to PEOPLE during the second semester of their 8th grade year.  Students must attend a partnership high school to be eligible for PEOPLE Mostly proficient in standards based grading scoring system

We target students who fit the following three statements:

  • Students in the UW System Targeted Minority Group: African American,

American Indian, Asian American (with an emphasis on Southeast Asian American), Chicano/a, Puerto Rican, Latino/a

  • Students with strong academic potential who could be first generation college

students

  • Students who are low-income
