  2. A Brief History • 1960 - German Village Society was formed to preserve and protect the newly created historic preservation district and neighborhood named “German Village” • German Village Commission was created

  3. 1965 - first “official” Historic Preservation Guidelines were published

  4. Caretakers of a Legacy • Official records were first kept at the GVS Meeting Haus which also included the 1983-84 German Village Architectural Details Survey, 1989- 1994 Ohio Historical Inventory Surveys, and misc. documents and photos

  5. March 2012 - the database software program PastPerf erfec ect was purchased and in Summer, 2012 the Property Files project was created for the purpose of scanning all of the Property Files, creating a record for each file and uploading the records to the GVS website as the searchable database

Most recent Ohio Historic Inventory Survey (late 1980’s/early 1990’s) 3. 1983-84 Architectural Details Survey (GV Commission/City of Columbus) 4. News clippings, stories, documents related to the address 5. Old / historic photos of property 6. Abstracts (to be added at a later date)

  7. Over 1,500 Property Files have been entered so far, containing over 8,000 scanned images

  8. Step One: Click on the Archive link on the German Village home page

  9. Step Two: Enter address number and/or street..

  10. .. Or enter keywords such as art, oral history, or for Haus und Garten programs type programs, or by year ex:1968

  11. Step Three: Check out your search results!

  12. Step Four: Have fun digging through the archived images and learning more about the property you are interested in!
