Objective

  • Our objective is to safely reopen school for everyone starting September 8,

2020 through a hybrid model

  • The District will adhere to the recommendations from the Pennsylvania Department of

Education, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and local health agencies

  • Our phased reopening plan has been vetted by Johns Hopkins University and Lehigh

Cleaning/Sanitizing Safety Protocols

  • All cleaning and sanitizing of our schools will follow CDC and manufacturer

guidelines

  • All high-touch surfaces will be cleaned/sanitized several times per day (door

handles, light switches, desks, restrooms, etc.)

  • Water fountains will not be used
  • Sealed, one-time use water bottles will be permitted
  • Hand sanitizer will be available in common areas and classrooms
  • Appropriate hygiene must be followed with frequent hand washing
  • School buses and other transportation vehicles will be sanitized between

each run

#3 – Positive COVID-19 PCR Test with Symptoms Yes Individual must:

  • Have 3 days with no fever and
  • Improvement in symptoms and
  • At least 10 days since symptoms appeared

#4 – Positive COVID-19 PCR Test without Symptoms Yes 10 days after the PCR test was collected:

  • If symptoms develop during 10 days, follow return to school guidance for

Classroom Safety Protocols

  • Appropriate procedures for movement through the classroom will be developed by

each classroom teacher

  • Remaining seated
  • Walking through the room
  • Remaining socially distanced

Education

  • Our goal is to have every student learning through in-person classroom

instruction; however, due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control, different

  • ptions must be employed to deliver instruction
  • Due to the number of students in the District, it is necessary to utilize a hybrid model or a

completely online model for learning

  • The exact schedule and mode is still being determined since data changes daily
  • Parents are being contacted regarding their preference for online or in-person instruction
  • We do apologize that we cannot accommodate every situation as restrictions drive the

decisions necessary for safety of all students and all staff members

  • HASD teachers will deliver the instruction
  • The 2020-2021 School District Calendar will be followed
  • Synchronous Learning through Microsoft Teams
  • Students who are online will receive the same instruction as those who are in-person
  • Attendance will be taken for each class regardless of in-person or online instruction
  • Students unable to attend in-person or online for the day will be required to review the

materials provided from the class in Microsoft Teams

  • HASD has been able to move to 1-to-1 computing (computers are still being received from

the companies due to back order issues)

  • Should any situation necessitate a move to 100% online instruction, HASD is

prepared to deliver.

Hazleton Area Virtual Academy

  • HAVA is designed for students who want to remain in an online environment and

have autonomy from a set schedule

  • All necessary equipment (laptop and internet stipend) will be provided and

maintained by the HASD technology department

  • All cyber classes are taught by highly qualified HASD teachers. Students can

schedule "face-to-face" meetings, if needed

  • Students can participate in all HASD clubs, activities, and sports
  • HAVA students have the opportunity to take classes at the Hazleton Career Center

and complete their academic requirements through the Virtual Academy

  • The Hazleton Area Virtual Academy allows students the opportunity to earn a

Hazleton Area School District diploma and participate in graduation ceremonies
