New Jersey State Assessment Program

The 2018 PARCC ELA was administered to all students grades 3-11 and the PARCC Math was administered to students in grades 3-8, as well as those enrolled in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. Students in grades 5, 8 and 11 participated in an inaugural administration of the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment - Science (NJSLA-S). Special Education Students with significant challenges participated in alternate assessments for English Language Arts, Math, and Science (DLM). All students in the Class of 2021 and beyond must pass PARCC ELA Grade 10 and PARCC Algebra I.

The purpose of this analysis is to answer these questions:

How well did this particular group of students do in comparison to peers across the state? How have we improved at each grade level from one year to the next, keeping in mind the tested population is different? How did the same group of students grow and change from

  • ne year to the next?

Where are our strengths and what skills are in the greatest need of improvement?

CONQUER MATHEMATICS

I LOVED the training. We began with Algebra, and I loved the hands-on strategy that Nancy showed us for rounding. She had us balance the base ten blocks on top of one another felt like it was the first time I had a VISUAL for my students who do not understand rounding. I knew that my colleagues and I were teaching rounding starting on the day after my training, so I made sure to rush to each classroom at 8:30 a.m. to show them the base 10 techniques. The Conquer Math workshop was fantastic!Since going to Nancy's workshop, I have been allowing my students more time with manipulatives, and focusing on the second stage of learning, before going to the symbolic stage. It has given me better insight into what my students truly know in math. I can't wait to go to the second work shop. The class was great - chuck full of great information I

  • pted to include an "exploration" day in Algebra 1

where I let the students persevere through literal

  • equations. The students really complain when we let

them try to figure things out but we are committed to doing more and more of that.

NJSLA - Science

Spring 2018 - Field test administered to Grades 5, 8 & 11 There will be no reporting on NJSLA-S for the first year. This was a field test and results would not accurately depict proficiency at any level (student, school, or district).

Next Steps

  • Teams are analyzing the evidence

statements for each standard and identifying strengths and weaknesses.

  • Future programming and

professional development will align to the district’s Strategic Plan.
