Pathway Advisory Councils

The role of Pathway Advisory Councils (PACs) are: to improve connections between secondary education, postsecondary education and industry through implementation of Hawai`i’s Career Pathway System. consider high-skill, high wage, or high-demand occupations in approving Pathway core, cluster and concentration standards development.

  • validate the need for programs of study and assure a high level of

academic and technical standards

  • assure that standards included in the Pathway System are current with

employment requirements in the changing occupational opportunities in Hawai`i.

CTE in Hawai`i’s High Schools

45 public and charter high schools receive CTE funding. 48,702 current high school students enrolled 26,235 Participants SY 2015-16 4,247 Concentrators in SY 2015-16 Definitions Participants: Secondary student who has earned one or more credits in any CTE program area Concentrator: 12th grade student who has completed the requirements for his/her selected State Certificated CTE Program of Study.

Programs of Study

A Program of Study includes at least two Carnegie units in the proper sequence in a single career pathway program area plus one required academic course. Core Course: Provides broad foundation of skills and knowledge as well as all aspects of the industry in a selected pathway. Cluster Course: More focused occupational area of study Concentration Course: Builds on the Core and Cluster level courses for a difference or more focused program of study. Academic Required Course: Complements the application of technical skills.
