Room 104 Clean Room Configuration Room 104 Clean Room Configuration

  • Draft Procedure available in LATDOCS. (LAT-DS-03281)
  • Some graphics improvements in work.
  • Space in room 104 is tight with limited parallel processing

space available. – Only enough space for the LAT integration stand or the LAT Mock-up stand at one time. – Metrology bay must be moved out of room for ACD and X LAT plate installation. – LAT integration stand must be moved if rework of ACD required. – Unused MGSE must be stored outside room 104

6.13 6.13 – – Validation & verification (1) Validation & verification (1)

  • Subsystem test-stands

– Many instances ( ~40 ) – Many hours of operation – Many people involved, each with a different approach

  • EM-1 and EM-2 tests with mini-tower

– More complete with hand-off of persistent data to SVAC – But, less seat time and consequently less practiced

  • Full tower testing (no detectors)
  • Test-bed testing

– In progress in ELX with LATTE 4.x – Hardware not yet fully functional

  • Standalone mode testing

– Useful for developing code not requiring hardware interaction

slide-25
SLIDE 25

GLAST LAT Project 4.1.9 - Integration and Test 11 Aug 04 Face to Face Meeting 25

6.13 6.13 – – Validation & verification (2) Validation & verification (2)

  • Limited unit testing of core functions
  • Will exercise system in not often explored corners of phase

space – Bad data – High data rate – Large data sizes

  • Will induce errors in major blocks to verify graceful behaviour

– Induced exceptions

  • Will generate a matrix of features with checked-off test criteria

Confidence will improve with more testing However, we need to define an end point

Please trace responsibility for every pass/fail test within I&T. Which department performs and evaluates each test? This is very important because these pass/fail tests determine whether we can proceed to the next stage of the build. The LAT schedule Steve Ritz Eduardo do Couto e Silva After discussions with SE SVAC realized that PASS/FAIL nomenclature used for SVAC tests are not the correct terminology to use. All Pass/Fail tests are the responsibility of IFCT which performs all of these tests. The scripts that drive these tests have P IN PROGRESS slide 39. Top 5 Issues between SAS/SVAC Top 5 Issues between SAS/SVAC

  • Main concern is schedule slip

– Pipeline delivery

» Issue: pipeline delivery has not happened yet

– Calibrations

» Issue: SAS not fully convinced of importance of TOT. SVAC needs it for the first tower tests

– LDF Parser

» Issue: SAS and Online need to finalize their interface since SVAC needs data files from SAS for EM2

– Analysis Ntuples

» Issue: SAS and SVAC have not agreed where to store detector information (e.g. trigger). Need resolution ASAP to support EM2 testing

– Geometry

» Issue: SVAC needs traceability of geometry information that has lowest priority in SAS work

Lessons Learned Lessons Learned

Cal EM-2 Observations

The following items were observed during the receiving inspection and installation of the EM2 Calorimeter.

  • Connector covers missing on 2 connector ports. J1 on TPS and JS1
  • n TEM.
  • Misaligned mate found on CAL to TEM connector. One screw and jack

post found stripped contributing to the awkward mate.

  • No shock indicator on outside or inside of shipping container.
  • CAL unit found a little out of square in relation to the shipping
  • container. This is only a concern because there is no shock indicator.
  • No pressure on purge lid gauge. A vacuum was discovered while

depressing the red purge button. Our procedure, LAT-PS-03027, requires above 5 psi. Should we consider revising this number? Should the container by pressurized? We’ve never received a Calorimeter with the gauge indicating positive pressure.

  • Debris found on top of the calorimeter.
  • 1X1 base plate interferes with NRL calorimeter lifting corner brackets.

  • Safety First

– Personnel Safety – System Safety

  • Communication is key to success

– Use visuals whenever possible; flow charts, status, Quality metrics – Liberal use of pagers and cell phone – Need subsystem POC and alternate for off hour anomaly resolution.

  • I&T Engineering Responsibility

– Interpret LAT Engineering requirements from drawings and specs to I&T procedures for execution by Techs – Provide ongoing support for troubleshooting and problem resolution.

  • Don’t do anything for the first time on flight hardware.
  • Don’t proceed unless everyone has a clear understanding of the task.

Minimize risk.

I&T Operating Plan I&T Operating Plan

  • Plan for 2 shift operation

– Minimum staff will be 1 Lead Technician, 2 Technicians and a Test Conductor or Test Director on shift (4 people per shift).

  • Shifts will run 7:00am-3:30pm and 3:00pm-11:30pm

– Daily morning meeting at 7:00am – Half hour overlap will facilitate a daily “hand-off” meeting at 3:00pm. Shift log will be used for documenting hand-off. – Shift hand-off between 2nd shift and the following day will be accomplished via shift log.

  • Baseline plan is 2-8hr shifts/5 days a week.

– Extended shifts and/or Saturdays will be used to maintain schedule as required.

  • Work has been scheduled on Friday after Thanksgiving and

through the Christmas shutdown.
