  1. GIF tests status report: uninstallation • data taking ended last Wed. • Equipment removal till last Friday • tnx Joerg v. Loeben and Steffen!! • Lead bricks and holding structure removed yesterday with the crane • LMU driver will bring everything back to Munich on May 23 F. Legger – MPI, May 14, 2008

  2. GIF tests status report: data • 14 M + 4 M + 2 M + 120k = 20 M evts collected • Threshold scan (34-36-38 mV) ~ 1M evts each; • Counting rate scan (0, 800, 1100, 1500 Hz/cm2) ~ 1 M evts each; • HV scan (2700V, 2745V) with source on/off ~ 1 M evts each; • Atlas settings for electronics with source on/off ~ 1 M evts each; • Time over Threshold scan with source on/off and threshold scan (34-36-38-40-42-44 mV) ~ 10k evts each. Tnx to the GIF crew: Felix, Markus, Jurgen, Carl-Friedrich, Julia, Albert, myself F. Legger – MPI, May 14, 2008

  3. Analysis status • Calibration nutples produced for all runs taken so far; • Meeting on Friday with Oliver and Felix to best coordinate analysis efforts; • Albert started working on Garfield simulations and sent first plots (limited statistics). F. Legger – MPI, May 14, 2008

  4. GIF tests: the future Gas Gas Gas • Test a prototype chamber (surface ~1 m2); GIF GIF GIF • GIF is booked till the end of COMPASS 2008, but can be used till end 2009; ATLAS • We will probably be ready to start beginning 2009; • Concern about setup dimensions: 1.2 m (width) x 2.5 m (length). DAQ DAQ DAQ F. Legger – MPI, May 14, 2008

  7. The setup at the GIF LHCb MWPC chamber 6 1-m-long small tubes F. Legger 02/08/08 7

  8. Our dangerous DAQ cabling which will have to be redone by May 1st GIF entrance F. Legger 02/08/08 8

  9. The setup at the GIF: a closer look cosmic muon LHCb ref. chambers 50 cm long standard MDT tubes 6 1-m-long COMPASS small tubes F. Legger 02/08/08 9

  10. The setup at the GIF: the trigger cosmic muon big LHCb scintillator moved from top to in between 2 layers of 6 COMPASS the two scintillators bottom each layers Scintillators shielded by 120 lead bricks! F. Legger 02/08/08 10

  11. GIF tests: shielding drawing not to scale! reference chamber lower multilayer shielded by Pb wall small tubes and upper multilayer shielded by LHCb chamber LHCb MPWC F. Legger 02/08/08 11

  12. GIF tests: drift time spectra (no irradiation) • threshold 38 mV • first hit, no tracking t max ~ 200 ns F. Legger 02/08/08 12

  13. GIF tests: drift time spectra (no irradiation) • threshold 38 mV • first hit, no tracking t max ~ 700 ns F. Legger 02/08/08 13

  14. GIF tests: drift time spectra (full irradiation) • threshold 36 mV • analysis needed! Lead shielding F. Legger 02/08/08 14
