Social Studies Department Offerings, etc.

 Freshm en - US Studies (year-long)  Sophom ores - World Studies (year-long)  Juniors - American Government (year-long)  Seniors - Economics (semester)  Students also need a semester of Financial Literacy - this can be taken in one of three areas: Social Studies, Family & Consumer Science, or Business/ Tech  A.P. courses available: A.P. United States History & A.P. American Government (both are year-long classes)  Electives: African American Studies; Current Events; Psychology (all are semester classes)

English Department Offerings, etc.

 Pre-AP 9 , 1 0 (previously called Honors)  College Prep English 9 , 1 0 , 1 1 , 1 2 (class most students will take)  AP Language and Com position

 This class (weighted) is open to juniors only; the students pay for the AP test and can receive college credit with a passing score. This is a challenging college level course with emphasis on writing and rhetoric.

 AP Literature and Com position

 This class (weighted) is open to seniors only; the students pay for the AP test and can receive college credit with a passing score. This is a challenging college level course with an emphasis on literature and writing.

 Dual Credit: English 1 1 0 0 (a second level writing class may be added next year)

 These classes (weighted) are worth 3 college semester hours and 1 full year of English credit so a student could complete two years of English in one year. This will be open to any high school student who meets the minimum Compass score or minimum ACT

  • requirement. It is a college class through Columbus State and graded with their

guidelines.

 Electives: Journalism and Public Speaking

 Freshm en: Physical Science, Honors Biology  Sophom ores: Biology, Honors Biology, Chemistry, Principals

  • f Biological Science

 Juniors and Seniors: Chemistry, Physics, Ecology, Zoology, Anatomy, Geology, Astronomy, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Principals of Biological Science, Human Body Systems  Every other year, the science department offers a Marine Biology half credit for students who complete the coursework and go on a trip to the Bahamas for a week.  In conjunction with the math department, the science department offers two of four classes (HMIT and Pharmacy Tech) students can take to prepare themselves to take a test and become a certified Pharmacy Technician.
