Project Overview

  • FDOT D7 is conducting a Safety Action Plan along the US 19 Frontage

Roads between 49th Street and SR 580 (Main St).

  • The 11.5 mile stretch of frontage roads passes through Pinellas Park,

Largo, Clearwater, and unincorporated Pinellas County.

  • The purpose of the study is to work with stakeholders, and agency

partners to evaluate the multimodal needs and develop potential solutions to improve safety, operations, and connectivity for all users.

  • Because the role of the frontage roads is to provide access

to corridor destinations, travel needs will focus on local demand, with the assumption that US 19 will continue to serve regional trips.

  • Objectively evaluate possible changes to improve

multimodal safety, operations, and connectivity.

  • Provide the local municipalities recommendations for land

use changes that may help facilitate the recommended multimodal improvements to the roadway.

55

Prioritize safety

Design public infrastructure that provides a safe and comfortable environment for all users.

Mind the gap

Increase multimodal connectivity and access along and across the corridor by addressing the missing infrastructure links.

Foster multimodal connections

Prioritize bike/ped/transit connections to key community destinations and recreational facilities.

Balance mobility and land use viability

Manage vehicular traffic speeds to suit community/business needs & desires.

Improve livability

Design public infrastructure that enhances the quality of the walk and provides a comfortable environment for all users through pedestrian-scaled streetscape elements.
