Exercise 6.5 Independent project presentatjon

Looking back over assignment fjve, I was initjally unsure of how to proceed with this exercise because my samples did not fall into just one area. There were samples that I thought would work best in a fashion context, a couple that I thought would be most appropriate for interiors and then some that seemed only suitable as art pieces. However, afuer reading my tutorial summary again, I realised that I had been considering my samples in the context of ‘safe’ optjons. In order to push the boundaries and to contemplate the use of all my samples in one context, I decided to focus on fashion textjles—as this is my preferred and I think, strongest context. I felt my hand-made theme books had worked well throughout the unit and so decided that this would be how I would present my independent project—extending the one I had started for part fjve, in the same way as I had extended the Strength theme book for exercise 6.3 in this

  • assignment. I also resolved to include actual photographs as I had for exercise 6.1 because I believe them to be a professional optjon.

Afuer collatjng images of the journey from initjal concept to resolved samples, I then had to decide which of the samples could be developed further to be shown in the context of fashion textjles. I created a repeatjng patuern from one of my samples and then used collage to indicate it as a fabric for a skirt and a dress, in the same way that I had in exercise 6.2. I also decided to use the same sample but in difgerent arrangements and scale to indicate it as a fabric for a bag panel insert and sandals.

I also decided to use two of the fabric based samples to create wearable jewellery items and indicated them in the context of a wrist cufg and a choker, in order to show again, the appeal to a younger client base.

I then chose to return to the original, sketched imagery that I completed for Part fjve and produced photographs to include in the theme book. My thought was that it would ofger an alternatjve presentatjon conceptjon to the client.
