  1. Empowering Photonics through Regional Innovation Strategies in Europe • Coordination and support action (CSA) • H2020-ICT-2016-1 Photonics KET 2016 • January 2017 – June 2019 • 9 partners, 8 countries This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 732695

  2. Target M Mark rkets • Agriculture • Food • Pharmaceuticals • Healthcare This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant 10/23/2017 4 agreement No 732695

  3. Rationale • Photonics companies need market expert advice and public funding to move from innovation ready into investment ready phase (TRL 4-7) • Underexploited synergies between H2020/ESIF, need for a better coordination of regional photonics strategies on the whole innovation chain • Photonics clusters: local connections, technology understanding, experience in supporting companies and networking This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 732695

  4. Key Objectives (regions/SMEs) • Raising regional policy makers’ awareness about the potential of photonics applications in the 4 target markets • Promoting co-funding initiatives and synergies between regional and European strategies • Improving Go to Market services for SMEs through expert advice • Strengthening collaboration along the value chain This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 732695

  5. Key Actions (regions/SMEs) • Mapping and highlighting photonics in relation to regional RIS3 in partner countries (WP2) • Possible co-funding scenarios (WP2) • European Photonics Roadshow : 7 events to aid SMEs to overcome market barriers and to boost collaboration via Go-to-Market sessions with experts and B2B meetings (WP3, WP4) • Dissemination/communication activities towards different stakeholders (WP5) This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 732695

  6. Expected Impact • Improved coordination of strategies and resources within Europe: highlight photonics to regional policy-makers, co-funding initiatives involving H2020/ESIF • Effective reinforcement of the European Photonics sector: enhanced business know-how of SMES, strengthened links between different stakeholders This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 732695

  7. WP2: Regional Grounds and Opportunities This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 732695

  8. Regions addressed x4 Support letters : Tuscany, North Karelia, Skane, Stockholm Supportive regional x4 business development agencies: North East UK, Catalonia (Acció), North Brabant (Brainport Development), Berlin-Brandenburg (Berlin Partner) High photonics potential X20 (non-exhaustive) : Västra Götaland, Flandres, Wallonie Bade-Wurtemberg, Thuringia, Saxony, London, Scotland, Wales, Provence Alpes Côtes-d’Azur, Bretagne, Île de France, Aquitaine, Rhône-Alpes Podkarpackie, South Moravia...
