Forum

  • ADA accessibility issues at the

elevator

Building Analysis – Security + Building Code ELCO School District

slide-27
SLIDE 27

ELCO MS (Grades 6-8)

  • We recommend that the domestic

water systems undergo a complete upgrade as part of any renovation project

  • Water coolers are not ADA compliant
  • Majority of the drainage system is

likely to be original from 1972 + at the end of its typical life cycle. If any drainage piping will remain as part of any major renovation it should be water jetted and scoped with a camera to identify problem areas.

Building Analysis - MEP ELCO School District

slide-28
SLIDE 28

ELCO MS (Grades 6-8)

  • Limited Small Group Instruction
  • Forum could function as a Large

Group Instruction, but amphitheater seating is not ideal

infrastructure, both MEP and building envelope, is in need of a full renovation / restoration.

Building Analysis - History ELCO School District

slide-31
SLIDE 31

ELCO HS (Grades 9-12)

  • The visitor parking is located closer

to the DAO entrance than the EHS entrance, causing confusion

  • The bus loop is tight and difficult to

navigate, it also does not provide enough room for loading/unloading

  • Visitors park in the bus loop,

sometimes remaining until 2PM when the buses arrive.

Building Analysis - Site ELCO School District

slide-32
SLIDE 32

ELCO HS (Grades 9-12)

  • The building does not have a secure
  • entrance. The entry foyer is located

across the hall from the front office, allowing visitors immediate access to the school

  • There is minimal visibility from the
  • ffice due to heavy mullion system

that obstructs the views

  • Difficult to monitor exterior of the

building due to lack of transparency

Building Analysis – Security + Building Code ELCO School District

slide-33
SLIDE 33

ELCO HS (Grades 9-12)

  • Chorus room has only one exit for

capacity exceeding 50 occupants

  • Most interior doors and hardware are

not ADA accessible

  • Classrooms have impediments to

ADA use, of particular note are the science labs

showing signs of surface deterioration and needs restoration

  • The EIFS is in poor condition with

several areas of damage noted as well as an overall need to be restored

Building Analysis – Security + Building Code ELCO School District

slide-35
SLIDE 35

ELCO HS (Grades 9-12)

  • The exterior glazing system was

replaced on 1990 and is now over 25 years old.

  • The glazing system is in fair to poor

condition and needs to be replaced. Several areas of failed glazing seals were noted

Building Analysis – Security + Building Code ELCO School District

slide-36
SLIDE 36

ELCO HS (Grades 9-12)

  • Interior walls were generally in fair

condition for their age, several areas

  • f damage were noted, on in

particular was cracking and heaving near the mechanical room.

  • The ceilings throughout are primarily

ACT and they are in fair to poor

  • condition. There is noticeable wear

and cupping to the tiles in the hallways and classrooms.

significantly

Existing Schools - Educational ELCO School District

slide-41
SLIDE 41

ELCO HS (Grades 9-12)

  • The gymnasium has a large bi-folding

door that is past its useful life and does not operate properly or safely

  • Gymnasium capacity of about 800

spectators meets the desired

  • capacity. The issue is that proper

clearances from the competition zones are not sufficient, putting both athletes and spectators into potentially dangerous situations

  • Current gymnasium is not air

conditioned

Existing Schools – Educational ELCO School District

slide-42
SLIDE 42

ELCO HS (Grades 9-12)

  • The Athletics Director and Assistant

Athletics Director/Trainer should be collocated and adjacent to the weight room.

ELCO High School Programming Summary

  • Successful programs lack critical space + availability to meet student demand
  • Art / Performing Arts / Technical + Agricultural Education / Science / Athletics

need additional space to function properly + safely

  • Lack of collaborative spaces (SGI’s + LGI’s – Maker Spaces) | Library should

transition to Creativity Center and become HUB of collaboration

  • Front Office / Guidance / Nurse compromised by space + location
  • Consolidate DAO staff to one space for operational efficiency + provide secure
