school district to become designated as a Di District o

Inno Innovation ( n (DO DOI) I). Ref. Tex. Educ. Code Ch. 12A

O Under a DOI Plan, a traditional school district may access

many of the flexibilities available to Texas open enrollment charter schools.

O The DOI Plan process provides a unique opportunity for a

school district to explore community input and develop a plan to address that input.

O The law is designed to provide a school district with more

local control.

O Under an innovation plan, a district may pursue specific

innovations in the areas of curriculum, instruction, governance, school calendar, budgeting, teacher contracts, teacher certification, exemptions from certain requirements under the Texas Education Code, etc.

O The statute also lists of topics that may no

not be addressed through an innovation plan.

O Policy AF (Legal) sets out the statutory requirements

concerning a District of Innovation.
