HSI grant – “Cultivando Mentes” (Cultivating Minds)

 5-year, $2.7 million Title V grant is the first of its kind in the state  Goals of the project:

 Increase student interest in the teaching

profession through the Nevada State College Teacher Academy Pipeline Project

 Increase academic preparation of pre-education

Latinx students

 Redesign core curriculum and teacher education

 Partnerships with SECTA, ECTA, Liberty, and Mojave  All have at least 70% minority enrollment

Mentoring to Accelerate Retention and Change Outcomes in Science (MARCOS) NSF Grant

 $650,000 over 5 years  Aimed at students who are low-income but high-performing in high school science

courses and come to NSC for Biology

 Scholarships to meet financial need (and reduce need for outside employment)

The Tim Christenson Inclusive Initiative (I2)

 Student created and driven  Planned for summer 2019, the summer

bridge will include:

  • College Success course (ALS 101) specifically

designed with diverse learners in mind

  • Week-long training on free assistive technologies
