COMMUNITY FACILITIES & AMENITIES IN THE PARISH The parish has a very active community life with many long-running and well supported organisations and institutions Goodrich Village Hall originally built in 1888 and extended 1970 3 rooms/halls available Goodrich Cricket Club established in 1903, was formally part of the Goodrich Court Estate Goodrich Tennis Club 3 floodlit courts, members only School and its PTFA Goodrich V.C. Church of England School (primary) Shop The Village Shop and Post Office (formerly ‘Jollys’) Café at Goodrich Castle visitor centre Pubs The Hostelrie, The Cross Keys both in Goodrich and the Saracens Head in Symonds Yat East

Hotels The Hostelrie at Goo drich and the Saracen’s Head, Royal Hotel and Forest View Hotel at Symonds Yat East all with meeting facilities Churches St Giles Church Goodrich and St Margaret’s Church Welsh Bicknor (private ownership since October 2014) limited access upon request Castle 11th century castle run by English Heritage publicly accessible right of way up to drawbridge Flanesford Priory Privately owned c14th century converted priory available for weddings conferences

LEISURE ACTIVITIES IN THE PARISH Goodrich Village Hall The Village Hall has 3 rooms that in the course of a typical year host the following • Community events eg • Meeting venue for organisations - curry night - Parish Council - Santa’s soup kitchen - Greenspace - Quiz nights - Village Hall committee - race night • Roaring Megs Community choir • Bare Bones Theatre Company - rehearsals and concerts - (productions since 2004 December 2016) • Later’, monthly ‘open mike’ evening • Arts Alive theatrical events - for local musical/artistic talent • Table Tennis Club • Pilates • The Ladies Guild • The Afternoon Club • Art Club • Flicks in the Sticks • Visiting holiday orchestra • Charity Fashion show • Annual charity plant sale • Book Fair/sale • Band rehearsals • Ceilidh • Walford Cub Scouts, • Walford Beaver Scouts

LEISURE ACTIVITES IN THE PARISH Cycling Cycle routes through the parish eg Peregrine Path linking Goodrich to Monmouth Horse Riding Public bridleways an Walking Many public rights of way/paths Goodrich walking group Fishing River Wye - mainly private but options available for day fishing permits Community Open Gardens, Annual scarecrow festival Canoeing Along the river Wye. At Symonds Yat East, public canoe hire and Wyedean Canoe Club (canoeing, kayaking, slalom and polo) OPEN SPACE IN THE VILLAGE Moors Meadow 0.75 hectares of community recreational ‘greenspace’ in the centre of Goodrich includes meadows, walks, picnic area and children’s play area Coppet Hill Common 96 hectare nature reserve available for walks Pool Ellocks Reserve community orchard River Wye/AONB public footpaths and riverside walks, canoeing, fishing, pleasure boat rides

  5. SPORT AND ACTIVITIES IN THE PARISH Tennis Goodrich Tennis Club has a Clubhouse and 3 floodlit hard courts. Table Tennis Goodrich table tennis club, formed in 2013 is based in Goodrich Village Hall and has two teams playing in the Herefordshire League Cricket Goodrich Cricket Club has been established 1903 and owns its own ground including a Clubhouse and Net facilities. Cricket played includes Marches League cricket for first team and second team, T20 league team, junior league cricket, friendly games and Sunday games NOT AVAILABLE IN THE PARISH While many activities and recreation opportunities are provided and available in the parish, some areas have been lost which were previously accessible and some currently accessible areas will be lost to the community in the near future Open Recreation Space Playing fields for the original school in Goodrich used to be accessible for for informal cricket, football etc Open Amenity space Previously protected open area southwest of St Giles Church - now potentially being developed for housing Sports unavailable in the Parish Sports not catered for but available locally include, football, rugby, golf, netball, basketball, bowls amongst others
