  2. Department Vision Statement To inform and engage community members in the NISD culture through trusted, adaptable communications. Department Mission Statement The NISD Communications Department will inform and promote accurate news in a timely manner, while embracing adaptable communications, engaging the community, and showcasing NISD’s premier education opportunities.

Trends for Communication • Parent/staff surveys revealed a change in preference of how news is received – Information driven vs. information overload • Video communication proved to be a valued tool for NISD – The NET was established in 2009 – Facebook Live • Introduction of social media and two-way communications • Use of word-of-mouth – Ambassadors – parents, staff, students • Mobile-friendly audiences • Younger reporters – Shift in how information is gathered – Change in crisis communications • Millennials… – Not just the age demographic! – We all have some millennial traits rubbing off on us. – How do you keep someone’s attention when the average span is 8 seconds?

  10. Areas of Focus 2017-2018 1. How we communicate with new families in our school district 2. Creating an updated Crisis Communication Plan – implement and train are the next steps! 3. Expanding the district’s advertising program 4. Incorporating the Education Foundation into our department, raising awareness and executing methods to fundraise to achieve NEF’s mission/vision

Advertising • Enewsletter - $4,000.00 total – District and Campus • Stadium – 3 to five year contract • Bus – none yet, but will in the fall!  • Website • Marquees • Can do packaging! • Here’s how we are unique – not all going to general fund! – Distribute to campuses as part of their activity accounts – Promotes business who want revenue to go straight to campus they work with • New sign on BNHS JV Athletic Field/Tennis Complex – Trophy Club Ortho – Money goes to athletics and is distributed to the programs • $70,000.00, total $213,000.00 (value over contract terms)

Partners in Education • Celebrating 10 years! • More than 110 Partners in Education • Trained 300 mentors • At least 12 businesses participating in Adopt-a-School • Served 900+ in Back to School Fair • Served 900+ in Angel Tree program – partnership with Tanger Outlets • Work with PTAs and volunteers • Community Relations eNewsletter – spotlight one volunteer a month

  13. NISD Education Foundation Mission: to provide financial support to empower NISD educators, engage the community and encourage future ready students Vision: to be the recognized leader in providing financial support to teachers and students in the region that NISD serves

  15. NEF Strategic Goals 1. To create an infrastructure that allows NEF to fulfill its mission and vision. 2. Secure, safeguard and manage the funds to ensure the financial prosperity of NEF. 3. Engage the community by providing effective communications through marketing, public relations and outreach. 4. Encourage future-ready students through high impact opportunities to increase academic excellence. 5. Establish trust with NISD educators to empower them to seek opportunities with NEF.

Research shows 60-70% share a link based on reading headline only! • Complying with ADA website mandates – Siteimprove • Staying proactive vs. reactive with social media networking sites/group pages – Use of ambassadors! – Listen often and intentionally! – Impact of crisis communications – updating plan • Studying trends of fundraising and how to incorporate mobile donations – Giving USA says 72% of total donations in 2016 was comprised of individual donors. – Launch of Annual Campaign for NEF
