III MEF MISSION III MEF conducts expeditionary amphibious/ air/ ground/ logistics operations and as directed, provides task organized joint and combined forces for contingency operations, crisis response and theater security cooperation events in order to meet Geographic Combatant Commander requirements across the spectrum of operations . 4

Train hard to be prepared for war. 2. Build resilience in our Marines/Sailors and their families, and be prepared for war. 3. Take care of equipment so it is prepared for war. 4. Be prepared to deploy to fight tonight. 5

Alert Contingency MAGTF On order, III MEF deploys an ACM consisting of a scalable headquarters and forces for crisis response within the USPACOM area of responsibility in order to save lives, mitigate human suffering, and counter threats to U. S. National interests. CONCEPT OF OPERATIONS CACM FCE (3d MEB) 1. III MEF rapidly deploys an FCE to the designated crisis area within the timelines established by USPACOM. GCE CE DET ACE DET LCE DET 1st ECHELON 2. III MEF will deploy a 1st Echelon RIFLE CLR-3 3d MEB MAG-36 CO(+) force package tailored to support the scope of the mission and magnitude of the crisis as determined by the FCE’s assessments and CDR USPACOM requirements. 3. III MEF will reinforce/enhance CE GCE ACE LCE existing capabilities of the 1st Echelon 2nd ECHELON with elements of the 2nd Echelon 3d MEB INF BN(+) MAG-36 CLR-3 follow-on force as required. 6

Community Relations • III MEF/MCIPAC average 85 ComRel events per month involving 1,540 Marines and 14,500 Japanese, including: • Base- Festivals, Flight line Fairs, Open Houses • Band Concerts to include joint concerts with JGSDF and Ryukyu University • Beach Cleanups • Sports Events • Cultural Exchanges • VIP Tours/Officer Exchange Programs • Retirement Homes/Orphanage Visits • DoDEA Schools on Marine Camps host hundreds of Japanese students, educators, and visitors, and participated in dozens of Cross/Cultural projects • Camp Courtney Summer English Program • Youth Cultural Exchange Program for Children and Adults from Oshima Island, Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture • Additional Organizations/Initiatives: • American Women’s Welfare Association ( AWWA). In its more than 40 year history, AWWA has donated over $8 million to Okinawan and American community groups . AWWA is comprised of members of the Marine Officer Spouse’s Club (MOSC) and four other military spouses organizations on Okinawa. • US Naval Hospital Internship Program for Japanese Doctors • MCIPAC Internship Program for Japanese university students in Okinawa • Marine Corps Parliamentary Internship Program in Tokyo • Marine Corps 101 Seminar for Japanese public • Okinawa Cultural Awareness Training (OCAT) Program • Mutual support and information sharing with regard to disaster relief, response, and capabilities (seven prefectures, including Shizuoka Prefecture, Okinawa Prefecture )
