Energy Efficiency Rebates for K-12 Schools

Appa lachian Power Commercial and Industrial Program helps you manage the cost of energy saving upgrades so you can reduce energy use and lower your energy bi lls. Rebates of 6<t per kWh saved are avai lable for interior and exterior lighting, HVAC systems, food service equipment and more:

Light your school for less, inside and out

In most K-12 schools, efficient lighting technologies can reduce energy costs by about 30 percent. Switching to high efficiency occupancy sensors and other lighting technologies will cut energy costs while providing well-lit environments that help students and teachers focus on their work.

Breathe easy with HVAC upgrades

If your school district is like most, it spends nearly half its energy budget on heating, ventilation and

  • cooling. Upgrading these systems - heat pumps,

air conditioners, water heaters, chillers, automatic controls and other HVAC equipment - to higher energy efficiency wil l quickly reduce your energy costs while enhancing indoor air quality.

Food service equipment

When you invest in ENERGY STAR" commercial kitchen and food -preparation equipment, you'll achieve significant energy savings in the long run. Since you serve thousands of lunches every day, you may want to upgrade to higher efficiency models and take advantage of rebates on ENERGY STAR refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, ovens, vending equipment controllers, etc. that are more efficient than standard models.

How will I benefit from an upgrade? Cash rebates reduce upfront costs:

rebates of 6(/; per kWh to help with upfront costs of purchasing and installing energy efficient equipment.

Lower electric bills: upgrading equipment

and appliances to high efficiency reduces electric use, and thus your electric bills.

Improved learning environment: increasing

student and faculty comfort and safety with newer high efficiency systems can lead to better productivity and student success.

( Original Sheet No. 34 ), which is embedded in the rates above. MINIMUM CHARGE Customers with demands below 500 KW are subject to a minimum monthly charge equal to the Basic Service Charge. Customers with demands of500 KW, or more are subject to a minimum monthly charge equal to the sum of the Customer Charge, the product of the Demand Charge and the monthly billing demand and all applicable adjustments. LOCAL TAX ADJUSTMENT To bills for electric service supplied within specified municipalities or political subdivisions which impose taxes based upon the amount of electric service sold or revenues received by the Company, as specified on Original Sheet No. 4-1 , wi ll be added a surcharge equal to the percentage shown on Sheet Nos. 4-2, 4-3, and 4-4 to accomplish a recovery of these taxes. PAYMENT Bills are due upon receipt and payable by mail, checkless payment plan, electronic payment plan, or at authorized payment agents of the Company within twenty (20) days of the mailing date. MEASUREMENT AND DETERMINATION OF DEMAND AND ENERGY The billing demand in KW shall be taken monthly as the single highest 15-minute peak in KW as registered during the month by a demand meter or indicator. Where service is delivered through two meters to an existing customer, the monthly billing demand will be taken as the sum of the two demands separately determined and the billing KWH taken as the sum of the K WHs separately determined. Monthly billing demands for customers with actual or contracted demands of 500 KW or more of capacity shall not be less than 60% of the greater of (a) the customer's contract capacity in excess of I 00 KW, or (b) the customer's highest previously established monthly billing demand during the past 11 months in excess of 100 KW. Billing demands will be rounded to the nearest whole KW.

When the measurement of energy occurs at a voltage different than the delivery voltage, the measurement of energy will be compensated to the delivery vo ltage. At the sole discretion of the Company, such compensation may be achieved through the use of loss compensating equipment or the application of multipliers to the metered quantities. In such cases, metered KWH and KW will be adjusted for bi lling purposes. In cases where multipliers are used to adjust metered usage, the adjustment shall be as

fo llows:

(a) Measurements taken at the low-side of a customer-owned transformer will be multiplied by 1.0 l. (b) Measurements taken at the high-side of a Company-owned transformer will be multiplied by 0.98. ATHLETIC FIELD LIGHTI NG Available to separately metered athletic field lighting facilities. In order to be eligible fo r the Athletic Field Lighting charges in this provision, a new or existing customer requiring an increase in lighting load must furnish and maintain the required equipment in order to receive the entire service at the primary voltage of the distribution line from which service is to be supplied. Athletic fields receiving service at the effective date of this provision shall not be required to purchase and maintain the required equipment supplying the existing secondary voltage service that is serving the customer's present load requirement at their present location.
