Professional Development

2015, WRESA literacy and technology training, New CTE teacher induction training, NCDPI course training, MedCaT Academy at WFU.

  • District PD: SchoolNet training, Google Classroom

training, DPI EC training, Beginning teacher training.

  • CTE PD: Certified Google Educator-Level 1 training,

Middle school teacher workshops, “Back to Industry” tours, New or struggling teacher shadowing program, Beginning of the year CTE update and training meeting, including curriculum, testing, fiscal policy, and inventory.

  • Planned PD: CCVS Moodle course training in April and

May, Innovation Expo at TCCC for Women in STEM, Summer conference, “Back to Industry” tours in Advanced Manufacturing and healthcare

Future plans for CTE

 Continue building courses in Moodle OR Canvas to create a more “blended” student-centered learning environment to prepare our students for the digital learning environment.  Increase work-based learning

  • pportunities for students.

 Extension Agent will teach “Extreme Makeover: Soft Skills Edition” curriculum  Offer every CTE teacher the

  • pportunity to take students on one

career/college tours during the year.  Promote the benefits of CTE to all

  • stakeholders. Promote to students all

the 9-14 pathways including the newly developed Adv. Manf.-Machining and add healthcare pathways.  Offer professional development

  • pportunities at local, district,

regional, and state level that will benefit teachers needs. Continue training teachers to develop strategies to meet every students need in their classroom.  Improve proficiency and performance data so that teachers are above state goal.  Continue creating honors portfolios for a variety of CTE courses. We currently

  • ffer 11 honors courses. Goal is at

least one honors course per program area.  Expand CTSOs available to students at every school.  Continue to prepare ALL students to graduate, be successful, and productive citizens and workers.

What makes CTE in Cherokee County a Success?

 Dedicated staff, teamwork approach, constantly seeking to improve  Active Advisory Board making curriculum recommendations and facility improvements. Nine advisory board members that have served for more than 10 years.  Strong support of all stakeholders: Superintendent, Principals, parents, business/industry, postsecondary partners  Large percent of students earning industry recognized credentials.  Teachers recognized for successes.  Teachers and students are very active in community and service projects. MHS students touring CNN and World of Coke and Georgia Tech
