About Kampot Municipality

  • Administration
  • Kampot-Municipality is a southwestern province next to the sea

coast and as far as 148 km from Phnom Penh Capital.

  • Total population stands at 34,325 according to 2010 data from

MoP.

  • The total households comprise of 6,411 with the average

household size of 5 persons.

  • The population density averages 640 persons/km2 with 24.5%

women headed. The land administration inKampot Municipality divided into 5 Sang Khat and 15 villages . It borders the north with Teuk Chhu District, East with Vietnam and the South with the Gulf of Thailand.

About Kampot Municipality:

The total area of Kampot Municipality is 54 km2 formed by mountainous, low-lying, coastal areas and sea. Key potential areas including: . Low lying plain devoted to the rice cultivation in the eastern part. .The low lying coastal areas have been used for salt production, mangrove woods, and other plantations. .It has 93km of coastline including 17 km of Kep coastline with rich marine species, resources and seaside. .Estimated land used for agriculture production is 575 hectares. .Land used for salt evaporators totals 1,000 hectares with production capacity ranges from 20.000 to 40.000 tons/year. .Mountainous area about 212 hectares.

Challenges:

DELGOSEA will only support the municipality to learn good practices some of the South East Asian countries of the

  • project. The study visit to one of the cities in Thailand will start

this year. The Municipality will have to start mobilizing resources from

  • ther sources to implement the plan and what we will learn from
  • ther countries. We will have to mobilize resources from the

central government and development partners/donors. We need to build capacity of our offices and private sector.
