What?

April 2018 – March 2019

When? Where?

Goal: to enhance the capacity of service providers to better serve vulnerable newcomers in Toronto. Toronto (city-wide)

Funded by:

Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (Formerly Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration)

Why?

  • Increasing need for capacity building for service

providers working vulnerable newcomers;

  • High demand - information is ever-changing & work

can be complex & emotionally challenging;

  • Very limited free training for service providers.

Who?

LOCAL IMMIGRATION PARTNERSHIPS (LIPs)

Multi-sectoral planning tables that bring a cross section of stakeholders together to identify ways to support the integration of newcomers into local communities. Overall objective: to enhance collaboration, coordination, and strategic planning at the community level in order to foster more welcoming and inclusive communities as well as improve settlement and integration outcomes.

How?

  • 12 half day "train the trainer" workshops on 9 subjects
  • Subjects identified by service providers as training priorities
  • Convenient and accurate knowledge-sharing (train the trainer)
  • 10 minute trainee presentations
  • Presentation, talking points & resources provided
  • Curriculum of training modules online
  • Toolkits include: full presentations, short presentations, resources,

facilitator notes, exercise descriptions, room set-up suggestions, etc.

  • Online platform for service providers to communicate with each other
  • Symposium to share the project's outcomes & encourage further

  • 9 toolkits on unique training subjects are available online,

including all resources and presentations.
