In language arts, students will be observing students as they build their buoys and interviewing students, in order to write newspaper articles. You should also interview your teachers who will be able to share information with you about how they were able to bring this program to your school.

  4. First, let’s take a look at some news articles. What information is presented at the beginning, middle, and end?

  6. Your turn! With a partner, revisit one of the articles we read and fill in an Inverted Pyramid Organizer with the information from the article. Be ready to share with the class.

  7. Where do journalists get their information? Interview: When you interview people, ask them questions and write down EXACTLY what they say. You can use these quotes in your article. Observation: Attend an event, and watch what’s happening. Take notes about what you see. Research: Read about the event or topic on your own to gain factual information that you may be able to include in your article.

The questions you ask should be relevant to the topic. In addition, you will want to do some of your own research prior to the interview.
