The assurance of commitment of aquaculture projects regarding the application of parameters regulating biosecurity plan. 3. The assurance of commitment of aquaculture projects regarding the application of basics and principles of good practices in aquaculture operations as specified in the related manual. 4. Awareness of investors regarding the importance of the application of parameters regulating the biosecurity program. 5. The recommendation of holding or withdrawal of licenses of aquaculture projects violating the application basics and principles of good practices in aquaculture

  • perations, in addition to the withdrawal of licenses of aquaculture projects that are

not strictly applying biosecurity parameters stated in the biosecurity manual.

National Biosecurity Committee

  • Biosecurity committee has been establish and represented by:

Deputy M inistry of Fisheries Resources Affairs as chairman

ADM A Biosecurity Division and Jeddah Fisheries Research Center

Government biosecurity consultant of the M inistry of Agriculture

Representatives of the aquaculture private sector.

  • The targets of this committee are as follow:

1. Recording health status of cultured aquatic species in aquaculture projects. 2. Supporting the efforts of Aquaculture Department (ADM A) and Saudi Aquaculture Society (S AS) in controlling diseases and its causative pathogens. 3. Reviewing the infrastructures of aquaculture projects according to biosecurity regulations, protocols and measures of aquaculture industry to ensure efficient productive operations in aquaculture projects.

times a year

  • M onthly collection of productivity data and

diagnostic results of all aquaculture facilities

  • Which results in a monthly report distributed to all the

industry

  • Emergency visits by specialized teams (both of the

Biosecurity Department as well as from private sector) in case of presence of any problem in aquaculture projects

slide-13

Surveillance program

  • Sampling shrimp and fish aquaculture projects,

surrounding areas, marine environments, markets and auction markets.

  • Examination of samples for OIE listed diseases and
  • ther diseases listed by ADM A in national and

international laboratories.

  • Follow-up of aquaculture projects through focal

points of biosecurity in fisheries research sector in coordination with focal points in aquaculture projects.

M anual of the Regulations of Importing Live Fishes for Aquaculture Purposes in KSA

  • His Excellency, M inister of Agriculture approved the

manual in 2014.

  • The manual aims at keeping the safety of imported live

aquatic species through the required health and technical conditions.

  • It includes:

– Lists of pathogens to be checked and techniques to be

used in imported live aquatic species to KSA.

– List of reference laboratories required to examine disease

pathogens.

– List of exporting companies of live aquatic species and

administrative companies approved by ADM A.

Compensations of Aquaculture projects

  • According to M inistry’s regulations, epidemic disease

problems especially viral ones facing some aquaculture projects require complete eradication of cultured aquatic species to prevent spreading of diseases and its causative pathogens, the matter that cause huge economic losses to investors.

  • Currently, a committee was established to deal with

the compensations of aquaculture projects facing disease problems. ADM A is currently coordinating with Department of Animal Resources to finalize the official procedures of this subject.

  • Several meetings have been carried out in Veterinary

Vaccine Production Center in Riyadh to discuss aquatic vaccine production.

  • Currently, preparation of national program for live

aquatic vaccines.
