OUR REASON FOR THE OUTDOOR CLASSROOM:

WE RECEIVED TWO GRANTS RECENTLY. WE GOT A $5,000 GRANT FROM LOWE'S AND A $4,000 GRANT FROM THE ROTARY CLUB. WE THOUGHT SINCE WE SPEND A LOT OF TIME USING TECHNOLOGY INSIDE, AN OUTDOOR LEARNING GARDEN WOULD BE A GREAT ADDITION TO OUR SCHOOL. THE OUTDOOR CLASSROOM WILL GIVE US THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE OUTSIDE AND LEARN. SINCE WE NEED TO LEARN ABOUT WEATHER, ANIMALS, AND ROCKS, THE OUTDOOR CLASSROOM WILL BE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY! WE CAN LEARN MANY THINGS, EVEN BEING OUTSIDE! EVERYONE WILL LOVE IT! THIS WILL BE A FUN EXPERIENCE FOR ALL OF BETHEL. THERE ARE MANY THINGS THAT KIDS WANT AND NEED TO LEARN, BUT CAN'T LEARN BEING INSIDE OF A BUILDING. THE BETHEL LEARNING GARDEN WILL BE GREAT!!!

HOPE YOU ENJOY OUR PRESENTATION!!!

Fruit and Vegetable Garden

Reason: We can have a fruit and vegetable garden so we could grow sweet apples and

  • strawberries. They can get

picked and the kids can have delicious fruits and vegetables with their meals. We wouldn't have to use money for ordering and shipping process, so the garden would save us money.

slide-7

Water

Reason: We are the water group and we are putting all kinds of water gadgets in our area. Our materials are for kids of all ages to enjoy and

  • study. Our rain gauge will show

students how much water is collected from rainfall every day. Our rain collector will collect water from downspouts to stop water from making a pool on the ground. The fountain will be for kids to look at and enjoy.

slide-9

Art Garden

Reason: The reason we have the art garden is to show kids how to be creative and use their own art skills. We will bring a lot

  • f color and art into our
  • utdoor classroom with the

art garden.

slide-11
SLIDE 11

Rocks and Minerals Garden

Reason: The reason we need the Rock Garden is that the third- graders study rocks. With having the different types of rocks in our garden, students will be able to see, touch, and feel each of them. Students can learn more about them not by just learning the kind

  • f rocks, but the textures of them,

too! There will also be a mining station where students can look, sift through the dirt and find different minerals.

slide-13
SLIDE 13

Texture Garden

Reason: The reason we need the pocket of texture garden is because students will be able to feel different textures in nature. This will be good for our younger students at Bethel. Students can feel different plants, tree barks, and other things found in nature to learn more about it.

slide-15
SLIDE 15

Animals

Reason: We need the animal habitats to learn about life style, life cycle, hibernation, and migration. When students see the animal habitat they will be encouraged to study and learn all they want about the animals that are occupying each habitat. We want to create a space where animals will be attracted to the different habitats, plants, and feeders we will use. There will also be sound stations where students can listen to different animal sounds and calls.

slide-17
SLIDE 17

Pathways and Bridges

Reason: Paths need to lead people who walk on them to the places in the

  • garden. Bridges have to take people
  • ver water. Entryways have to greet

people who walk through. For each place in the garden, each path is going to be different and where there is water, there must be a bridge over

  • it. For each entrance, there must be an
  • entryway. For our paths, they will be

at least 2 feet wide. For our bridges, they should be at least 4 feet wide and 4 feet tall. For our entry ways, they should be 7 feet tall and 5 feet wide and optionally they could have the words "Welcome."

slide-19
SLIDE 19

Greenhouse

Reason: The reason why we need a greenhouse is because we can grow plants all year

  • long. We will be able to start

growing plants from seeds and then move them to our

  • garden. We will be able to sell

some of them to other people and raise money for the school.

slide-21
SLIDE 21

Weather Station

Reason: The reason that the weather station is needed is because the Bethel students in second and fourth grades need to learn about the weather around us. We can use a solar panels to power other things around the

  • classroom. We can use the telescope to learn

about outer-space. We can use an anemometer to measure and study the wind. We can use weather books so students can read them to learn. We have posters that will described as the weather. The wind vane will show the direction of the wind. We will also have a weather map, a rain gauge, a thermometer, and a barometer. These tools will help us better understand the weather around us.

slide-23
SLIDE 23

Smelling Garden

Reason: We think that we should have a Smell Garden because the kids can experience their sense of

  • smell. We have added our pond for

flowers smell sweet. The smell garlic will be helpful because we have many things to smell. We think we should have the Smell Garden so, kids don't have to be cooped up inside doing this. I think that the Smell Garden will be good for the Outdoor Classroom.

slide-25
SLIDE 25

Reading Area Reason: The purpose of this

reading garden is that kids can learn and read in a healthy, beautiful garden. It is so they can enjoy a nice book in a peaceful environment and maybe get in the habit of reading for homework more often. This is to help so when younger students come out, they can get a head start on reading. In conclusion, the purpose of this reading garden is to help people, and to get people in the habit of reading.

GABRIEL DOUGHTERY, ALLISON KESSLER, AND BRANDON BAILEY Teaching Center

slide-27
SLIDE 27

Teaching Center

Reason: The reason for the teaching center is for a place for working and listening to the

  • teacher. It is like a classroom but
  • utside. Also, kids can be

cramped by desk or chairs inside, but outside you will have fresh air and open space. The reason for the outdoor project was to create an area where kids could learn outside. This is the area where they will be doing their work. The whiteboard can be used by teachers and students to show their ideas.

slide-29
SLIDE 29

Recycled Garden

Reason: We think we should have a recycled garden because it will teach the students how to recycle and not waste. The compost bin will help add our own nutrients to the soil with worms. All the materials we will use will be recycled. The piano will be for the music teacher. The basketball for the P.E. teacher. We want to include all teachers in our recycled

  • garden. The recycled garden will be a

good learning center for our outside garden.

slide-31
SLIDE 31

Sound Pocket Garden

Reason: The reason for our sound garden is that it will calm people. It will sound like nature and it will help music teachers teach music outside. We will have different outdoor instruments where students can investigate sound.

DYLAN STEFANCO, LOGAN ADAMS, ALICIA LINNSCOTT, AND JACOB SABELLA Time Capsule

slide-33
SLIDE 33

Reason: A time capsule is a historic collection of goods or information, usually intended as a method of communication with future people and to help future archaeologists or

  • historians. Time capsules are

sometimes created and buried during celebrations such as a World's Fair, a cornerstone laying for a building or at

  • ther events. The reason we want to

include one in our garden is to let

  • ther students in the future know

about the students who worked on this garden.
