Remote Hearing have been implemented over the past few weeks with Judges Manley and Sylva to help CJ involved individuals maintain stability in the community during the pandemic.
We began conducting Remote Hearings for clients in Dept. 60 and 61 who are connected to community based Mental Health Providers.
Remote Hearings have been effective in encouraging and motivating clients to adhere to treatment program requirements and reducing recidivism.
We inviting all SUTS and MH partners with clients in these two courts to participate in Remote Hearings.
This will allow Treatment Providers the
might be struggling or need some extra support from the court while in court appearances are being waived during the pandemic.
WHAT are Remote
Remote Hearings are informal court
sessions for clients to be virtually present on a digital platform – Zoom.
Honorable Judges Manley and Sylva,
Public Defenders, Defense Attorneys, Behavioral Health Providers, and Behavioral Health Treatment Court Team are present.
The goal is to problem solve and
motivate clients to promote engagement with their treatment providers.
WHEN are Remote
Remote Hearings are currently held
weekly on Tuesday afternoons from 3:40 to 5pm.
We expect that this will be
expanding in the near future
WHY have remote
Clients out in the community are currently
having their appearances waived in the courtroom due to COVID-19.
Clients are not being remanded due to Zero
Bail.
Supervision is challenging for Pretrial,
Probation and Parole.
Treatment providers are trying to utilize
Telehealth
Remote Hearings can provide additional
support and encouragement to our Criminal Justice involved clients in Department 60/61 in an effort to support treatment outcomes during this health crisis
