Changes in 3rd edition of BATSO 01

Subsystem Requirements (subclause 1.3) Critical components must be separately certified, and must be applied according to their specified ratings. Tests for Alternative / New Designs (subclause 3.5) A change that would lead to failure of any of the tests described in this Manual requires re‐evaluation (re‐testing). Moreover, all tests have to be conducted with all alternative sources of cells. Test Sequences (subclause 4.4.2) For all sequences of test option 2, it is acceptable to use a new sample for each test item, and to change the order of sequences, and the order of tests within each sequence.

Vibration Endurance Test (subclause 5.1.3 c) Clarification: After completion of each cycle the battery shall be fully charged. Partial Short Circuit Test (subclause 5.1.4) Clarification: location of short circuit for designs with parallel strings. Observation Period (subclause 6.2) For all sequences of test option 2, tested samples shall be

• bserved for (at least) five days after test to check for abnormal

situations in a defined period after the testing sequence.

Overview Transport Regulations (Annex A) Completely revised information with reference to UN, IATA, IMDG. Marking Requirements (Annex C.1) Battery marking requirements were updated: rated capacity without preferance to “Wh”, nominal voltage was added.

Certification of the new BATSO 01

Proposed timeline for BATSO‐logo certification procedure: Publication of 3rd edition: October 21st, 2013 Availability for certification: December 1st, 2013* Expiry of 2nd edition: May 31st, 2014 * TRF will be available latest by then; projects applied on December 1st, 2013 or later shall be tested according to BATSO 01:2013‐10.
