  2. Introduction Of Brick  From the beginning of the civilization “Bricks” are used in many ways.  In the past history we found the use of brick in their works.

  3. Background of Brick Industry In Bangladesh  In Bangladesh, “Brick” has a significant roll in construction industry.  There is no alternate building materials like ‘Brick”.  Now brick is the basic needs of people of Bangladesh.  Main raw materials top soil are badly effected such a demand of brick. It is the cause of land degradation.  Using the alternate materials, we can overcome the situation gradually.

  4. Importance of Brick  In Bangladesh “Brick” is the most important construction material.  The country dependence on bricks is due to its lack of stones and other alternative building materials at comparable cost.  Bricks are also widely used, not only for housing construction, but also for construction of roads, pavements bridges, and aggregate in concrete mix.  Demand for bricks was urban based but spread in rural areas.

  5. Over View Of Brick Sector In Bangladesh 1. Due to unavailability of stone, bricks have a significant role in the construction industry. 2. Total brick production in Bangladesh is estimated 17 billion per year, 3. Number of brick kilns around 6 thousand plus. 4. More than 90% of brick kiln owner are small- scale operators. 5. Brick making is a seasonal operation. 6. Total labor is 2.million. 7. Raw materials are topsoil and sand. 8. 90% Bricks are making manually.

  6. Brick Industry Identified In Bangladesh  The brick industry contributes major three problems identified in Bangladesh.  It is a major source of air pollution, GHG emission.  Land degradation  Deforestation.  In Bangladesh brick technologies are exposed as outdated, energy inefficient, highest emission of SPM, NOx,CO2,SO2,.. reason of global warming, climate change, ETC.

  7. Roll Of Brick kiln Owners  The Kiln Owners are organized as the Bangladesh Brick Manufacturer Owners Association (BBMOA).  BBMOA established in 1982 to support the brick fields owner for common interest, develop in brick sector, introduce new technology, rules and regulation, implement the Govt. policy, awareness build up.  Work with different organization.

  8. License’s, Rules & Regulation  The Brick Burning Act first introduce in 1989.  The 1989 Act was amended in 2001, to regulate the location of brick kiln.  The GOVT introduced 2002 a rule that use 120ft chimney in brick kiln.  Gov. again amended the Brick Act in 2013 to improve the brick sector by modernization of technology, totally banned the FCK brick kiln and penalty provision for un-lawful activities.  License’s: Brick making industry require half a dozen valid certification paper in BD..

  9. Technology Are Available In Bangladesh  Zig Zag Kiln.  HHk  Tunnel kiln.  The Fixed Chimney Kiln (FCK) was dominating the brick sector.  Existing FCK brick kilns are converting in Zig Zag Kiln.  Zig Zag Kiln becoming popular in Bangladesh due to good feature.  HHk,Tunnel are substantially cleaner ,consuming less energy and emitting lower levels of pollutants technology. These technologies are still being on piloting position

  10. Fuel Use In Brick Kiln  Coal is the main fuel for the brick firing in Bangladesh.  Coal feed from the top of the kiln in the interval of time.  Fuel consumption in Zig Zag kiln is 14-16 tons coal/lac bricks.  HHk and Tunnel is lower fuel consumption kiln.  Most operating kilns consume about 12-16 tons of coal and releases pollutants into the atmosphere.

  11. Draw Back Of Clay Bricks  The rapid growth in construction has created a demand of bricks causes loss of top soil.  Countries food security depends on land.  Due to many reason, the land scarcity has now became a threat to us.  To save our top soil we should use alternative building materials like” Block” made of cement, sand, Fly ash, stone chips, etc .

  13. Workshop On Fly Ash

  14. Fal-g Technology  There is a “fly ash” availability from the coal based power plant in our country.  There is a scope to promote FaL-G Plant in Bangladesh.  The production fal-G bricks which replaces the clay brick market.  Conservation of fertile topsoil .  Protects environment and minimizes the global warming by abating the emission of million tons of CO 2 .

  15. Construction with the Fal-G Bricks

  16. Construction with the Fal-G Bricks

  17. Challenge Of Alternative brick materials  As clay bricks are available all over the country, so consumers are not interested to use the block.  Use of alternative materials save soil, health ,pollution etc.  If It is mandatory to use the block in GOVT construction works than Block industry will develop day by day.  A new policy should be formed for the future of the alternative brick .

  22. The country, has limited resources to serve the needs of its population. Needs to identify cost effective products, techniques and technologies which draws its thrust more so in housing sector. The government’s commitment to provide housing to all… Building materials where substitutes like FaL-G could provide a new solution.
