Introduction
The Baker Brick Barrier™ is a simple HVAC drainage accessory that prevents unsightly water and mineral staining on the
commercial buildings which
w a t e r d r a i n i n g t h r o u g h condensate drainage lines. Although simple in design, it is ingenious in its effectiveness in guiding the condensate water away from the wall.
Who Created the Baker Brick Barrier
The Baker Brick Barrier was conceived of and created by a keen eyed and creative United States Postal Service employee, Nathaniel Baker. Mr. Baker has traveled a variety of routes in his 15years with the Postal Service. During that time, he has had the opportunity to deliver mail to single family homes, multi-family structures, commercial buildings, retail establishments, office complexes and more places than he can count. In those travels and routes, he has noticed that the drippings from condensate pipes often leave a very ugly reddish – brown stain all the way down the wall from the location the pipe comes out of the wall. So the proverbial light bulb went off, and Mr. Baker began considering the most functional and cost effective device which could be used as a retrot with the existing condensate pipes as well as with any new installs which use external piping. After conducting research about possible similar application items and not nding anything that matched his product vision,
product to alleviate this problem.
Prototype Development
After some initial rudimentary sketches, Mr. Baker engaged a professional wood worker to assist him in constructing the Baker Brick Barrier in a rst “wooden” prototype. After evaluating this initial design, Mr. Baker rened his thinking and engaged a product development rm to assist him in advancing his prototype to a more nished, workable stage. In considering the easiest way to address the application in conjunction with Mr. Baker's existing iteration, the product development rm, at Mr. Baker's direction, constructed a Baker Brick Barrier to specications that allowed “in the eld” testing to validate the functionality

How it Works
The Baker Brick Barrier is so simple in its design and func tion, that once viewed in use, one is likely to say “why didn't I think of that, it is so simple.” The Baker Brick Barrier is simply placed around the exterior opening of the condensate pipe. As condensate runs through the pipe and out the Baker Brick Barrier, the innovative “tongue” deects the drippings away from the wall and onto the

Prototype Testing
In order to conduct a rst simulation of the condensate pipe protruding from a wall, Mr. Baker created a physical wall of corrugated plastic material with an appropriate diameter “condensate pipe” running through and extending beyond the wall at a 90 degree angle at the length as measured on an actual building. The Baker Brick Barrier was then attached to the “condensate pipe.” To create the effect of the condensate or water coming through the pipe, a siphon pump was placed in the back side of the pvc “condensate pipe,” and water was run through the pipe. After multiple trials at differing volumes , Mr. Baker observed that none of the water “hit” the wall; thus no staining would have occurred. Based
that the Baker Brick Barrier prevents unsightly staining and often laborious and unsuccessful removal of the staining.

Simplicity of Manufacture
Although the Baker Brick Barrier could be manufactured by several different manufacturing processes, the injection molding process might allow for the most cost effective way of producing the Baker Brick Barrier. However, not having been involved in manufacturing previously, Mr. Baker is noting this as a matter of information only. Mr. Baker wants to leave decisions of this nature within the domain of the assignee of the rights to the Baker Brick Barrier.
Intellectual Property Status
In order to insure a level of proprietary protection, Mr. Baker applied for a patent in April 2014. He had previously engaged the Intellectual Property division
matter and engaged this rm again to represent him with the Baker Brick Barrier. The Patent Application is currently pending.
“Competitive” Products As mentioned above, before moving ahead with development of the Baker Brick Barrier, Mr. Baker conducted research on the internet, in retail stores, a n d i n h i s everyday travels as a mail carrier. He has not found anything specically designed for the application he visualized. In his research, he did nd the use of a small pvc elbow jammed inside a “condensate pipe. ” However, as can be seen from the photo, this did not prevent leakage down the wall and was not securely sealed at the junction; thus the problem was not solved. Additionally, Mr. Baker also uncovered a very labor intensive attempt at preventing the condensate from running down the wall by the use of what appears to be 4-5 separate cut pieces of pvc pipe in conjunction with an elbow, all of which may have required several hours of labor and the purchase of extra materials to accomplish the objective.

Potential Patent Assignment
Although Mr. Baker has undertaken the eld research, R and D and other appropriate steps to move this product vision from just a vision to a functioning prototype, he appreciates that aligning himself with an existing company with compatible products in its line would be the most expedient method for properly and protably, for both parties, to market the Baker Brick Barrier. In this regard, his interest is in entering a reasonable arrangement that will permit the assignee a generous return on its investment. Mr. Baker is willing to support the assignee's efforts in any way the assignee thinks benecial and realizes that any royalty
protable for the assignee.
