What is ArcGIS Enterprise Sites?

  • A new capability of ArcGIS Enterprise that allows customers to create tailored web page

experiences for their end users, that are independent of one another.

  • No additional licensing
  • Requires the Enterprise portal
  • Available to all ArcGIS Enterprise customers when they move to 10.6.1
  • Rather than navigating to a Group page to find content, members can go directly to the custom

web page.

  • Security and access for the site and its content is enforced by the portal

Why?

  • Problems solved:
  • Makes Web GIS more approachable and easier to navigate for non-GIS users.
  • Allows customers to tailor the Web GIS experience to meet their needs.
  • Makes it easier for customers to apply their own branding.
  • The experience (look and feel) is consistent with modern web design.
  • Allows users to see how content is related.
  • Why we built it:
  • Customers have requested this functionality for years.

Allows documents and links to be opened in an iFrame within the site rather than opening in a new browser tab. Makes it easy to get to the service behind a layer. A helpful capability for people who know and care about access to services (such as GIS professionals and developers).

Key points

  • Sites is a capability of the Enterprise portal
  • The Enterprise portal is very useful for GIS-centric users. Sites is useful for any user, regardless of their

experience with GIS.

  • Remind the customer that Sites is included with ArcGIS Enterprise
  • No extra fee, just upgrade to 10.6.1
  • Don’t try to hide the HTML/Markdown
  • Don’t make it the focus of the conversation.
  • If working the UC, know where to send people
  • Read the ArcGIS Enterprise Sites FAQ for UC

“Why does Sites look so much like Open Data and the Hub?”

  • Sites, Open Data, and Hub stem from the same source code
  • Sites, Open Data, and Hub are not the same

Currently, Open Data requires the items used in Sites and Pages be shared with everyone. Works with any data in the Enterprise portal
