Naturally occurring ozone in the upper atmosphere protects the earth from the Afr Program Advii sory Fomm sun's harmful rays. Ground-level ozone, commonly known as smog, is a gas that is created when po llution flrom veil i des, Aiir Quality businesses and power plants combine in the presence of sunlight. The po llutant is formed when heat and sun li ght mix with volatile organfc compounds, or voes, and nitrog: en oxides, or NOx, in the lower atmosphere.
