Air Quality

LBH has extensive Air Quality monitoring programme: 8 continuous monitoring stations & 60 diffusion tubes; Air quality has shown steady improvement generally, however exceedances of NO₂ remain (Brentford, Chiswick, Gunnersbury); No exceedances of PM, but no safe threshold limit)! NO₂ exceedances of EU limit value are mainly associated with high volume of traffic; PM prevalent

  • n roads (A315, A316, A406, A4, A312 & M4)

dominated by diesel vehicle fleet & fright; LBH AQ monitoring provides robust evidence for where planning & mitigation measures need to focus

Actions (AQAP) to improve AQ and reduce burden on PH

Public Health Awareness Raising; PH Team will ‘support engagement with local businesses, schools and community groups’ through initiatives such as Beat the Streets and Hounslow specific AirText campaigns through CCG, GP’s surgeries (1st Principle/AQAP 9); Ensure JSNA has up to date information on AQ and DPH is briefed on AQ opportunities & risk related to public transport [Clean Bus Corridor to Chiswick High Road & beyond in 2021] (2nd Principle /AQAP 10/13); Action to raise awareness of AQ amongst business community, with a briefing to Hounslow Economic Business Forum (2nd Principle / AQAP 14);

Actions (AQAP) to improve AQ and reduce burden on PH

Action to raise AQ awareness in schools through Sustainable Travel: Active, Responsible, Safe (STARS) programme, through behavioural change, active travel (walking & Cycling) that could help fight

  • besity and improve health (4th Principle / AQAP

16/17/17.1). Further actions within the AQAP may be accessed at link: https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/downloads/file/1836/air_ quality_action_plan_-_2018
