  9. SPADE in Project design (ADB Use Case) SPADE is used for Project Design and analysis on Secondary Cities Environment Improvement Project. Available digital and non-digital city/town profile information were collected from provincial line departments and plugged into the SPADE. 9 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  10. Projects in Dong Xoai ◼ Map of Dong Xoai with Protected Areas (Blue Shade) ◼ Project officers needed to know if projects in the area are falling within or outside the protected area Protected Area 10 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  11. Digital and non-digital data were collected from different sources Digital data of Facilities in Dong Xoai Paper based map of river embankment 11 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  12. Paper based maps were digitized, while digital maps not in GIS format were converted and uploaded to SPADE 12 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  13. SPADE aids project officers in planning and project design ◼ Water facilities plan overlayed to the ◼ Paper based river embankment was digitized and georeferenced to have its map with protected areas location on the map ◼ It was concluded that water facilities component is outside of the protected ◼ It was concluded that River area embankment is outside of the protected area Protected Area Protected Area 13 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  14. Platform to structure and visualize urban planning and climate data 14 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  15. At the start, SPADE contained data for 5 Cities (Ha Giang, Vin Yenh, Hue, Patuakhali and Bagerhat). Since then, data is gradually added to the platform and now SPADE contains information for more than 18 Cities in Pakistan, India, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Philippines, Vietnam and China. 15 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  16. Simple analyses tools - comparing scenarios 16 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  17. SPADE now also utilizes external data: NASA Black Marble 17 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  18. SPADE now also utilizes external data: Landcover 18 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  19. SPADE now also utilizes external data: Rainfall intensity 19 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  20. SPADE 1.0 Architecture 20 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  21. SPADE 1.0 Online platform Web users Desktop ◼ Open source technology (Browser) Users (QGIS) Geonode 2.8, Geoserver 2.13 ◼ Leaflet / Javascript Client (SSL) PostgreSQL, PostGIS ◼ Leaflet / Javascript Client ◼ GeoNode Django (Application Server) ◼ Database ◼ Maximize out-of-the box, minimize GIS Server customization server ◼ Scalable and flexible cloud based Geoweb PostGIS Geoserver infrastructure (Amazon Web Services) cache PostgreSQL ◼ Secured webservices Backup tooling ◼ Easy Backup & Recovery Secured Amazon Web Services 21 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  22. SPADE Testing, Acceptance, Production DEVELOPMENT ACCEPTANCE PRODUCTION • Amazon EC2 • Amazon EC2 • Local Virtual Manchine • www.acc.adb-space.org • www.adb-spade.org Testing Release update or new version Development Centralized code Repository 22 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  23. Safeguards in SPADE Use of safeguards app is piloted on Philippine Cities, with the result of the assessment uploaded to SPADE 23 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  24. Safeguards app was used in the field to collect data, then uploaded to SPADE App Interface Select REA Form Fill up Form 24 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  25. Parts of the Rapid Env. Assessment (REA) Form 25 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  26. REA Forms are uploaded to SPADE 26 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  27. Since we have the assessed location geotagged by the app, then data can be reflected in SPADE. Hazard layers (like flood hazard) can then be overlayed over the location of the assessed area 27 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  28. SP3 Climate Resiliency Officer Updates in SPADE 28 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  30. Towards SPADE 2.0 – Mapstore integration 30 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  31. Implementation challenges ◼ Use of external (wms/wmts) data sources is not always stable ◼ SLD style creation to meet Geoserver’s requirements ◼ It sometimes happens that layers duplicate themselves when using GeoNode’s front-end to upload layers (in bulk) ◼ We weren’t able to get the printing function to work ◼ User groups and user rights 31 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019

  32. Concluding remarks ◼ Open source solutions like GeoNode are a very good alternative for proprietary software ◼ Applications need to be intuitive and self explanatory (look and feel are very important aspects) ◼ SPADE is being used more and more within the ADB and helps project officers with their project planning and project design because it can integrate various spatial data sources ◼ SPADE currently serves as a common system/platform within ADB that integrates data from over 700 different data layers for analysis 32 ADB SPADE | GeoNode Summit | 11 June 2019
