Course Description This course is intended to give an overview of an innovative method for bonding glass and architectural panels into building facades and for interior architectural applications. Adhesive attachment solutions will be presented which reduce fabrication time and the overall energy and cost to fabricate curtain wall, commercial door and windows, and exterior and interior architectural panels systems. A video will be presented which illustrates these concepts. This course will provide an overview of acrylic foam tapes for use in commercial buildings and offer insights into the aesthetic benefits of this alternative adhesive attachment method. Design criteria for acrylic foam tapes will be presented which factor into the specification of these adhesive bonding systems. Application examples and a case study will also be presented.
Course Objectives Upon completion of this course, the design professional will be able to: 1. Understand the different types of glazing and architectural panel systems and methods for glass and metal panel attachment. 2. Understand the physical and performance characteristics of acrylic foam tapes. 3. Summarize the features and benefits of acrylic foam tape and the added value that each can bring to the fabricator, engineer, architect, developer, and building owner. 4. Identify key design elements when using acrylic foam tapes for structural glazing and architectural panel applications. 5. Explain the fabrication process when using acrylic foam tapes and identify exterior and interior structural glazing and architectural panel bonding that would benefit from this technology.
