  1. Who We Are: Pine Forest School of the Arts is a dedicated Magnet elementary school committed to excellence in both standards-based academics and the arts. What t We Do: We provide a Visual and Performing Arts program that helps promising students cultivate their passion and strengthen their talent for arts activities while ensuring academic excellence. Our Mission: As a success-oriented school, Pine Forest drives academic achievement and nurtures artistic self-expression within a cooperative learning environment.

  2. What we believe… At Pine Forest School of the Arts, we believe that the highest learning occurs when students are immersed in the creative process…through their art form as well as in their academics. https:/ /www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0JKCYZ8hng

  3. What Y ou Can Expect… We provide a rigorous academic program coupled with an intensive study in five art disciplines – dance, theatre, strings, visual art, and vocal music. Students that are promoted from Pine Forest School of the Arts are prepared to meet the high quality academic and rigorous arts curricula at the middle school level.

  4. What Sets Us Apart… Students in grades KG-5th attend an arts class EVERY • DAY. ALL grade levels get exposure to performing and visual arts coursework on a daily basis. Very few elementary schools offer resource every day! By the time students get to 4 th and 5 th grades, they • are scheduled into an advanced art (art focus) track that grooms them specifically for their desired arts program at LaVilla SOT A or Fort Caroline SOT A. PFSOT A offers a dual education. Students are provided • instruction through a rigorous curriculum and instructional framework that meet the demands of the new Florida standards AND they are provided intense instruction in performing and visual arts by highly qualified artists, musicians, dancers, and actors!

  5. Noteworthy Partnerships Dance Ensemble has a partnership with the Florida Ballet. • Trained dancers come after school to teach technique to students in grades 1-5. Dance partnership with Douglas Anderson in which dance • students come over to teach PFSOT A students during the day. This year 2 nd grade students will perform in the DA Children’s Dance Concert. Each year, a different grade level participates, along with our advanced dancers in 4 th and 5 th grade. PFSOT A is the ONL Y elementary school that has a • partnership with Douglas Anderson’s orchestra! Our strings students are provided opportunities to perform with professional orchestras including the University of North Florida Orchestra.

  6. Application Information The electronic application requires the parent to have a Focus • Parent Portal account. Visit www.duvalschools.org to create an account. Once the account has been validated, you may apply for magnet programs. If your child is not a current DCPS student, you will need to either • create a student number if your child has never attended Duval County Schools or you will need to have your child reactivated if you are having them return to Duval County Public Schools. To create a student number for a student who has never attended • Duval County Public Schools, log into your Parent Portal Account and follow the directions to create a student. Once you have created your student in the Focus System, send an email to School_Choice@duvalschools.org and give the School Choice office your name and your child's name with the student number and they will link you with your child. Once they have linked you, you can then log into the Focus Parent Portal and click on the link to apply for a magnet school.

  7. Tips and Timelines You can only apply to a magnet school online using • your Parent Portal Account. There will be no paper applications accepted.
