THE SSANGYONG RALLYCROSS CUP: A NEW EVENT IN CAR RACING

The all new championship will start up on 5th March 2017 in Maasmechelen during the opening round of the Belgian Rallycross Championship, which is organised by the Belgian Off-Road Asso- ciation (BORA) - a division of RACB - and will run until 5th November 2017, when the championship is concluded. The award will go to the best car, which means that teams can share driving duties if they wish. A completely new fjxture in the world of motor sports, SRX is intended to allow access to a very wide audience and offer an entry level event for all drivers. Low registration fees mean that teams will be able to use up to 3 drivers per meeting, but will also be able to use each session to work out the best crew combinations by switching co-pilots during the day. This option is unique in racing on the circuit and will allow the greatest number of participants to benefjt from multiple sessions on each race day.

The all-new series allows everyone to join in a real championship, with real racing cars for a very affordable price. Clearly, SRX intends to make motor sports more accessible for a wider audience to actively compete alongside the RACB Belgian Rallycross Championship.

ALL LEVEL OF DRIVING SKILLS

Anyone who is passionate about motor sports – be it experienced drivers or amateurs, businesses, customers or staff - are welcome to compete in this new rally series, where enjoyment and adre- naline are the watchwords. The SsangYong Actyon Sports pick-up has been chosen for its affordability and the fact that it is unusual in motor sports. Although preparations are the same as with “real” racing cars, absolu- tely anyone can drive this pick-up. Sharing the excitement as a team is part of the deal, as each car must have a driver and a co-pilot on board. IMPORTANT: the driver can be switched out up to 3 times during a race and even for each round. The championship is based on the total points accumulated by the car over several events and it doesn’t matter who the driver is. That means there is a multitude of options for e.g. spreading the costs for the entire season across multiple entities or for a company to invite several partners and/or members of staff to partici-

• pate. There are absolutely no restraints as to the team confjguration. During one racing weekend,

up to 3 people could drive the car and have multiple co-pilots! All this is intended to make the experience as enjoyable as possible for as many people as pos-

• sible. The only requirements for getting involved: participants must be over 16 years of age and

have an RACB licence. This licence is compulsory for drivers as well as for co-pilots. An annual licence can be purchased for €85.

The races will take place in parallel to the Belgian Rallycross Championship, which guarantees complete professionalism due to the expertise of the Belgian Off-Road Association (BORA), a di- vision of RACB. Participants of SRX therefore have the full support of a professional structure and are bound by the same regulations as the drivers in the Belgian Championship. The presence of other drivers is a great opportunity for learning and skill development as well. Furthermore, the Belgian Championship attract an audience of enthusiasts at every race stage, ensuring high visibility for all SRX team partners. “This new series is a very attractive project. SRX Media Cup During each round, the media have the chance to discover the new vehicle series inside and out. They will also have the opportunity of inviting their readers, listeners and/or viewers to join them at the race track and share in a unique event fjrst hand. At the end of the season, the SRX Media Cup will be awarded to the most competitive media team.

DUIVELSBERG CIRCUIT

Situated around fjfteen kilo- metres north of Maastricht, the Duivelsberg circuit is one of the

Rallycross Championship venue since 1972. A unique feature of this circuit is its right line, which leads to a very tight bend, a diffjcult, high contact point. The off-road section of the circuit is another high-octane section for drivers.

BUXTEHUDE

ESTERING CIRCUIT

Estering is a permanent rally- cross circuit with a reputation for being one of the season’s more technical circuits. It is situated in Buxtehude, 35 km south-west of

• Hamburg. It hosted the fjrst ever

rallycross race in Germany in 1972 and was the very fjrst WRX venue in Germany in 2014. With WRX 2017 already scheduled, Estering holds a very important position in European rallycross.

JULES TACHENY CIRCUIT

The Mettet track is a favourite among drivers, as its off-road section remains unaffected by adverse weather conditions. It has an excellent off-road sur- face, which is very resistant, as well as a one-of-a-kind blind

panoramic view across the whole circuit. Mettet has been hosting the WRX for around 25,000 spectators per event since 2013 and has extended the contract until 2019.

ZELOS, ENTHUSIASTIC SPORTS PROMOTER

Zelos’ mission is to promote the world of sports. The small startup led by Freddy Tacheny got in- volved in the FIA World Rallycross Championship (WRX) at the request of the Royal Union Motor Entre Sambre et Meuse, the club which organises events on the Jules Tacheny circuit in Mettet. Zelos handles a variety of tasks like the organisation of pre-sales, communication system implementation, logistics support and fjnding sponsors. The company’s success at WRX led SsangYong to task Zelos with creating a promo- tional formula designed to develop the reputation and the image of the Korean

• brand. Based on its experience, Zelos decided to extend its activities into this

rapidly expanding sport and joined SsangYong in putting forward this unique racing format, while becoming a promoter of the SRX project.
