Essex Squash57 2018-2019 Competitions: County SQ57 Singles Championships on Sunday 7th April at The Woodford Wells Club. There were over 40 competitors, 16 in the O50’s, from 10 clubs chasing the 6 titles on offer Inter-County: off the back of the Essex Closed we entered 3 teams (Men, Women, O50) into the inter-county championships in Nottingham in June. Essex came away as the National O50 Champions, congratulations to Patrick Osborn, Marc Thornley, Fred Cooke, Pascual Dibattista & Paul Fennell. A big thank you to the captains Daniel Weights, Zoe Fennell and Patrick Osborn for all their organization effort.

Essex Squash57 2019-2020 There has interest expressed in trying to re-establish an Essex sq57 League but given the limited number of clubs stepping forward and the likely contention with squash matches we are discussing possible alternatives e.g.:
probably makes sense to run an Essex Squash57 Doubles competition in the build up to that.

Essex Squash & Racketball Association Coaching Workshops A Development highlight is the regular Essex Squash Coaches Performance and Development (mentoring) workshops with England Squash National Coach Paul Carter England Squash Participation Programs England Squash have a requirement to deliver a number of programs in the coming year:
Essex Squash & Racketball Association England Squash Participation Programs Essex has done well in relation to our England squash 3-year target numbers for participant programs in Essex. The Squash Club Business Networking events have helped us immensely (The Squash Club video later) We have met targets for adult and junior 101, but need more numbers recorded for Squash Girls Can and Squash57 Interested in supporting or need assistance on how to use the England squash App please contact Chris Vine
Essex Squash & Racketball Association New Efforts Several new adult events run by Niall Engerer at David Lloyd Gidea Park, Woodford Wells and Brentwood Centre together with newly qualified coach Alex King Super Series Finals night at St George’s Hill Club in Surrey was a truly memorable and successful occasion. Nick Matthews held one of his farewell tour exhibition nights at David Lloyd Gidea Park in January – which was also well attended and appreciated.
Essex Squash & Racketball Association Another “new” initiatives was the first Secondary Schools Squash Tournament held at the University of Essex in May. (Ideally an annual event and should feature in the Essex School Games competition). To expose the sport to new players 160 year 9 (14+) students attended Outreach work sessions held at Tendring Tech, Thurstable High School and Plume Academy. As a result of the above after school Satellite Squash clubs have started at Park Drive Maldon, Tiptree Sports Centre and Frinton Tennis & Squash Club, funded through Active Essex.
Essex Squash & Racketball Association Outreach schools work has also taken place at the Earls Colne Primary School for years 1 to 5. This resulted in a new junior section starting at the Earls Colne Rec Club coached by newly qualified Russell Haythorpe and it is growing weekly! Thank You to everyone involved in developing the game in Essex, please keep it up, it is very much appreciated by the county!!
