– 98 trees (tubestock) and 45 advanced (45L) trees throughout – Rushes & sedges along river margin – Infill planting over remainder with shrubs and groundcovers

Vegetation planted

  • Changes made following initial concerns:

– Reduction in the number of trees planted on the apartment side

  • f the path by half (to 10)- limited to species expected to grow

<10m in height – views of the jetty and ground surface were not intended to be preserved

  • Tree species planted on apartment side of path:

– Allocasuarina fraseriana (Common Sheoak) 8-15m – Banksia littoralis (Swamp Banksia) <10m – Casuarina obesa (Salt Sheoak) 10m

  • Vandalism - trees snapped off 2007
  • Infill planting adjacent pool

Previous complaints

Complaints received from residents on four occasions regarding several issues associated with foreshore vegetation adjacent to Balneum Apartments :

  • View obstruction
  • Safety/ crime prevention
  • Lack of vegetation establishment adjacent pool

Complaint/ request Response 2006- Letter received from Kurt Steiner on behalf of Balneum Apartments, requesting only low shrubs and trees planted, due to concerns regarding view obstruction and potential crime concerns.

  • Reduction in number of trees planted
  • Response provided via letter

2008- Request received from Carol Zaugg & Dianne Silcock on behalf of Balneum Apartments, to remove trees below the apartments to restore views. Also concerned about crime and lack

  • f veg establishment near pool.
  • Officers met on-site with residents
  • Crime Risk Management Plan developed
  • Previous response re-iterated, with copy of

letter cc’d to Councillors via memo

  • 2011- Second Crime Risk Management

Plan developed (internal ref) 2013- Email received from June Daniel on behalf of Balneum Apartments, concerned about obstruction of views due to continued vegetation growth and additional tree planting

  • Removal of self sown Casuarinas
  • Previous response re-iterated

2014- Email received from Bob Patteson (member of Council of

  • wners), with concerns raised due to lack of vegetation survival

adjacent pool

  • Soil test to confirm no issues with salinity/

pool leaching, soil wetter applied
