Accomplishments Legislative & Policy Issues – Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act – Vulnerable Populations • Middle Eastern Refugees • Drug Users – Monitoring health outcomes – Convening / promoting collaboration across health care providers, agencies, and citizens Annual report to the Board of Supervisors

  5. Health Update – the GOOD High rates of breast feeding (better than State) High rates of kindergarten immunization Teen birth rate well below the State rate and continuing to decrease Adult smoking rate lower than State “Walkability” high: 79% live within ½ mile of a park

  6. Health Update.. The Not So Good High rates of obesity , drug use , suicide , STI ’s, and domestic violence These are all preventable! Prevention is highly cost effective STI’s (chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis) – Double rate of GC since 2012, particularly young adults – Large increase in chlamydia over past five years

  8. Dashboard Items Monitor and evaluate available data on: – Domestic violence (arrests, ED visits, prosecution, etc.) – Suicidal/self injury admissions – Sexually transmitted infections Vulnerable Populations – Refugee Health – Drug Users

Recommendations Increase Health & Human Services staff with diverse cultural/language skills to focus on: – Outreach (STI’s, Obesity, domestic violence education, etc.) Increase school based/community based STI testing and treatment Focus on reducing junk food and sugary beverages Sponsor day-long interagency forum on Refugee Health with a focus on prevention, integration, and community based education.
