Basics of Year-Round School Design Follows a balanced, year-round calendar • Students are assigned to one of four “tracks” • Three tracks are in session while one track is out of session • Standard year-round design: • • No traditional summer break • 45 school days on track • 15 school days off track or intersession • Traditional holidays are honored August 14 th , 2012 – Slide 4

Scope of Work: 2011/2012 School Year Convened a cross-functional district team to analyze required deliverables • associated with both the 2011/12 school year and the intended implementation in July, 2013 . Scope of Work: 2012/2013 School Year Track Selection Timeline and Process: All current UPCA and FWCA students are guaranteed enrollment in First • Ward Creative Arts for the 2013/2014 school year. Through an online process, families will make up to three selections for • their preferred track. Sibling guarantee will apply only if the identical track selections are made • for all children within the same family. If no track is requested, a specific track will be selected for each student. • Timeline: • October/November, 2012: Online, track pre-selection lottery • December, 2012: Notification of track assignment • January, 2013: First lottery application period • March, 2013: Notification of first lottery results • August 14 th , 2012 – Slide 9
