We learn better if we work in short, intensive bursts rather than marathon sessions
The use of low-stakes tests are repeatedly highlighted as the most effective way of remembering key knowledge
Asking questions and then explaining the answer is a powerful way of internalising knowledge and understanding
The brain gets bored easily. We learn better when we switch between topics and activities.
Concrete examples enable us to demonstrate, understand and explain abstract concepts
Combining words with visuals gives you two ways to remember information

Parental Support
We are all working towards the same goal! The parental effect on test results is around five times more powerful than the influence of pupils’ schooling, it was revealed
How you can help your child?
1. Ensure attendance is excellent 2. Ensure they are sleeping, relaxing, drinking water and eating healthy meals and snacks. 3. Ask about their lessons. What did they learn? Enjoy? Need to do for homework? What are they unsure of? 4. Help them plan and start their revision now in year 10. 5. Put all the key dates on the family calendar, phones etc. 6. Actively help with the metacognitive revision strategies.
7. Encourage the use of a wide range of revision tools and apps – these can often be fitted in around other activities.
8. Ensure they have access to revision guides now in year 10. 9. Help encourage and facilitate them attending after school support sessions.
It found 41% of children who used portable gaming devices at least twice a day achieved at least five GCSE A* to C grades, compared with 77% of those who used them less than once a week.
