Component 1 WRITTEN: Worth 40% of the GCSE. Y11 Written exam – 1 hour 45 minutes. 80 marks. Multiple choice 4 questions. (4) Four questions on a play we study in class. Short and extended

  • questions. (44)

One question on Live Theatre. (32)

Component 2 PRACTICAL AND WRITTEN:

Worth 40% of the GCSE. Y10 Devised (create) performance using a stimulus (10% of mark) and written coursework (30% of mark)

2500 word essay / portfolio

Component 3 PRACTICAL: Worth 20% of the GCSE. Y11. Performance of two extracts from one play. Can be a monologue, duologue or group piece.

We watch “Blood Brothers” at the theatre in Y10 to deepen understanding. One question on Live Theatre. (32) – We watch one performance in Y10 and one performance in Y11 = TWO THEATRE TRIPS IN Y10 AND ONE IN Y11.

Component 2 PRACTICAL AND WRITTEN:

Worth 40% of the GCSE. Y10 Devised (create) performance using a stimulus (10% of mark) and written coursework (30% of mark)

2500 word essay / portfolio

Teacher presents students with a range of stimulus material (prop, object, headline, piece of music, photograph, story etc.) and students use this as a starting point to create their own performance (worth 10%)

They document each step of the journey, including the final performance and this portfolio is worth 30%.

Component 3 PRACTICAL:

Worth 20% of the GCSE. Completed in Y11. Performance of two extracts from one play. Can be a monologue, duologue or group piece.

Students are given a group and a scripted play. They are given two extracts they must perform in front of an external examiner in Y11.

The extracts performed can be in the form a monologue, duologue or group or a mixture e.g. a monologue and a duologue.

Each extract is worth 10%.

► Is a REALLY BIG PART OF GCSE DRAMA.

DON’T PICK IT UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO WORK HARD AND WRITE LOTS!

► 2500 word portfolio and the 1 hour 45

minute written exam

► You will be required to do a lot of

research and writing in your own time.

► It is not a soft subject.
