WSU Sport Club Federation Tier System Outline So students can organize their own clubs to further their activity and competition in sports about which they may feel passionate Give students the opportunity to play their sports
Why do Sport Clubs Exist?
- “So students can organize their own clubs to further their
activity and competition in sports about which they may feel passionate”
- Give students the opportunity to “play” their sports at a
more in-depth level
- Offer students leadership opportunities in leading an
- rganization
- Increase the value of a WSU experience
Weaknesses in Our System
- Limited practice and event space
- Limited funding
- Inequities in program expenses (ice hockey vs. lacrosse)
- Limited objective metrics when making decisions
involving allocation of resources involving different clubs
Current Process
- Clubs submit practice schedules for the following semester by a deadline
- Conflicts are worked out fairly if they are on time
- Late submissions get lower priority
- Events-Space reserved on a first come first serve basis
- Budget Allocation
- Clubs present to SCF Council and professional staff as to why they are asking
for their request
- SCF Council/Professional Staff deliberate following all presentations, some
metrics include:
- Prior allocations
- Number of members
- Major purchases
- Need (facility costs, equipment costs, travel)
About Tiers
- The SCF program currently uses a Tier System, with Varsity
Sport Clubs and regular Sport Clubs
- Adding additional tiers will group clubs with similar goals and
- perations together (more competitive and active clubs vs.
clubs that are less so)
- This process is commonly used in sport club programs
nationally
- Should not change anything for clubs themselves
- Rewards clubs that are more organized
- Helps us to remove clubs that are not a good use of resources
- Increases transparency of expectations of clubs
Why tiers ?
- Assist in tracking club activities
- Tool to help with budget allocations
- Informative for clubs
- Track club progress throughout the year
- Objective way to group clubs and allocate resources
- Transparency
- Developed with SCF Council to create a system showing
clubs what actions we value as a program
- Built off of existing criteria within the SCF Manual
