  • 1. Start with yourself (or you could start with a

spouse, parent, child as #1)

  • 2. Work from known to unknown
  • 3. Males on even numbers
  • 4. Females on uneven numbers
  • 5. Write forename and then the surname
  • 6. Surnames in CAPITALs
  • 7. Use female maiden names
  • 8. Write date—DD Mmm YYYY
  • 9. Record your source—so we all know how you

know what you know!

  • 10. Record place in full—town, parish/region,

county/state, country
