Planning to Attend a College

  • r University?

 Begin exploring 2 or 4-year university/college options and research the

admissions requirements for the schools you are interested in attending.

 Take the ACT and/or SAT in the Spring of this school year and Fall of 2016.  Schedule college visits and campus tours during the summer and fall.  Look into finding a summer program, job or internship in your career field of

interest.

 Create a resume of all activities and employment since 9th grade for teacher

and counselor recommendations.

 All applications should be completed online through the college’s website , the

Common App, or on CFNC. Most students apply to 3-5 schools (Reaches v Definites).

 Know the application deadlines BEFORE you apply and adhere to those

dates!

Honors and Distinguished Honors

 Honors Graduates must

have at least a weighted 3.33 GPA.

 Distinguished Honors

Graduates must have a weighted 3.75 GPA or higher. GPA’s are recalculated at the end of the first semester during senior year, which determines Honors and Distinguished Honors graduates.

Spring 2016 Registration

 Log into PowerSchools through the Homebase Student

Portal.

 Once you receive your transcript and FRC sheet with the

remaining courses for graduation, review the Course Selection Guide carefully and CHOOSE WISELY. You must select 8 primary choices and 3 alternate choices (even if you plan to do Early Release).

 Then, enter selected courses into PowerSchools.  You may be enrolled in an alternate choice, so select

alternate courses you would like to take.

 Pick up and turn in Early Release Forms and Course Level

Waiver Forms to your counselor.

 Once you’ve entered your courses in PowerSchools, please

take Google Survey before you leave.
