Course Overview ALL 6 TH GRADE STUDENTS TAKE: • Language Arts DAILY (Honors or Grade Level) • History (Honors or Grade Level) • Science (Honors or Grade Level) • Math (Math 6 or Foundations of Algebra) • PE/Health • Art & Intro to Computer Applications (semester classes) • Music (student choice)/Resource or Spectrum

  6. Music Options! Join our Willard Music Family! Band - This class is open to students who have an interest in learning to play the flute, clarinet, oboe, alto saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium/baritone, tuba, or percussion (snare drum/mallet instruments). The class involves performances throughout the year! It is a full-year elective class. Orchestra - This class is open to students who have an interest in learning to play the violin, viola, cello or up-right bass. The class involves performances throughout the year! It is a full-year elective class. Choir - This course is for students who like to sing and want to develop their singing skills. The class involves performances throughout the year! It is a full-year elective class. Music Lab - This class is designed to enable students to experience music as an educated consumer and participant. Students will explore music, learn about music history and understand music theory. Students may also collaborate on unique music projects using web-based tools.

  7. Willard’s 1st EVER Rising 6th Grade Instrument Try-Out day!! Sat., February 29th Sign Up for one of three time slots: 9:00-11:00 am 11:30 am-1:30 pm 1:30-3:30 pm During this clinic, students will meet the directors and be evaluated individually on each of the instruments. This is to ensure they are matched up with an instrument that best suits their natural physical embouchure characteristics and best guarantees their success.

  8. Math Option 1: Math 6 ● MAP test RIT Score of 218 or below Sample Progression

  9. Math Option 2: Foundations of Algebra ● MAP test RIT Score of 233 or above Sample Progression

  10. RIT Scores of 219 - 232 If a student has a RIT score of 219 to 232, the teacher will review ● prior MAP assessment scores, prior math SOL scores, student grades, and additional classroom evidence to determine placement in Math 6 or Foundations of Algebra.

  11. Math - Special Notes Algebra - (Parents cannot request this) ● To be eligible to take the Math 8 SOL Simulation (M8SS) for Algebra I placement, a student needs an index score of 96 (which represents the equivalent of a 242 on the MAP math assessment and adjusted scale score of 96 on the SOL). Students wishing to apply to AET must be in Geometry in 8th ● grade. Students wishing to apply to AOS and TJ need to be in Algebra 1 by 8th grade.
